Quote: SmokeyTA "NOBODY WANTED TO FUND A CLUB IN SOUTH WALES TO PLAY IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP. WE DIDNT HAVE A CHOICE OF USING LEIGHTON SAMUELS MONEY TO KEEP THEM THERE. HE DIDNT WANT TO BE THERE, HAD WE NOT GIVEN THEM THE OPPORTUNITY OF SL THEY WOULDNT BE THERE. '"
Unfortunately, that is why it has failed. The only real logic that can be found here is that we promoted a club because the chairman wasn't willing to stick around in the Championship (where they should have stayed it seems). Now that the times have gotten hard (only in the space of a year) he is looking to leave anyway. It was a choice, it would appear, of he goes now or he goes later. Any club under this leadership would not add to SL, and has unfortunately damaged its reputation (as well as that of the RFL).
In the future, I would hope that the RFL are not so desperate for expansion that we crumble to the wishes of demanding chairmen who are not willing to stick around in the lower leagues, as it appears they don't want to stick around in the SL either when the times get hard.
