Cool. Does that work the other way too?
Anyway, I hope they realise that the world of Rugby League is rich and diverse and simultaneously home to different traditions and strands of opinion, and don’t resort to stereotypes or broad generalisations.

And how many times has he jumped ship (to a different sport, never mind club) to go chasing dollars? This guy plays for himself and nobody else. Toronto don't no when he's likely to take the field, and this seems very much like Pogba at United.

| Quote: Mr Dog "The very significant difference between that and this is that he is a (part) owner of TWP, a business that actively encourages and promotes (and likely benefits financially from) the sale and consumption of alcohol and also advertises gambling. Owning shares in a company that does such means that he is condoning the actions - Sharia law doesn't allow you to pick and chose which bits of a company you have shares in to ignore.'"
Who says he’s following Sharia law? Lots of Muslims, Christians, Jews and people of all religions follow parts of their religion and not others.
His team don’t have an issue. The league doesn’t have an issue. The sponsor doesn’t have an issue. Not sure why fans of other clubs are incredibly worked up over this.

So? Name me a player who doesn’t play for himself?
Can this guy actually win with people?
He goes to where he’s paid more - gets slagged off for “chasing money”
Doesn’t chase money and sticks to his beliefs - gets slagged off for not towing the line not chasing the money.
Insular, backward, parochial RL at its finest.

Do you mean essentially as a tax on clubs spending more than a certain amount?
If so I’ve been in favour of that in the past. Essentially have a finite cap and then anything that is spent over that the club also has to give so much in “tax” to the league to spend where it sees fit.
Personally now I’d rather just go with a cap that is a proportion of a clubs income. It should incentivise clubs to increase their income then. But crucially exclude loans from a clubs income calculations. Then a club can’t be put into debt by directors loans chasing success. A rich owner can still invest, but it has to be given, not loaned to the club.

Other way around? What do you mean? Like rugby league is talking about Islam?

Kind of. But it wasn’t an [ientirely[/i serious point.
I’m imagining that SBW’s profile in majority Muslim cities like Samarkand, Isfahan, Lahore and Kuala Lumpur, for example, might not be super high.

Probably not but it would still be higher than Tom Johnstone or Kevin Brown. The fact that Muslims are even talking about rugby league should be celebrated

If that were to work in Rugby League, we'd need to switch to a softer cap with more allowances for things like Homegrown players, similar to how the NBA has the Bird rule to allow teams to re-sign players they've developed. I know it's not exclusively used for that, but that's how the equivalent should work IMO.

The bird rule has nothing to do with “developing” a player. The bird rule relates to a player who has played for your team for 3 years

| "As soon as they won promotion Brian McDermott starts calling half of us Luddites"
“What can any reasonable and rational person expect in terms of comeback when you are saying to someone who has been at a club 15 years and has ploughed in X amount of millions, that actually you shouldn’t be part of this party.
“What does he expect? I think he should get his feet under the table before getting on his soap box. The whole way they have taken this into the public arena has completely undermined the goodwill feeling their involvement generated on being promoted”
100% agree with Neil Hudgell. So that's Hull FC's and Hull KR's stance on TWP. What is the betting that another 9 SL clubs think exactly the same ?

This is all over this mornings RL press and apparently seven SL clubs are all saying the same thing about TWP in Unison.
Catalans as guests will keep out of it for sure, leaving only three English Superleague clubs shall we say "on the fence" Hetherington doesn't often agree with the top SL bosses and I assume Mr. Fulton will keep his usual low profile as will whoever chairs Salford.
So my bet is Lenegan, McManus, Davey, Pearson, Hudgell, Moran and Carter are all on the same wavelength on this, roughly the same gang who took on the RFL when they forced the Middle eights on the game but lost by a vote. Later this gang of SL bosses destroyed the RFL by splitting Superleague away from them, now these SL supremos will be planning for whom they will let in Superleague under the 2022 deal.
And it won't be TWP.
