The man employs Carl "Third Man In" Ablett. Didn't he gouge someone's eye the other night or are we not supposed to talk about that?

Excellent defence mechanisms.
1.Mcdermott hasn't defended Ablett.
2.I haven't seen the incident but from what i gather it was part of a scuffle. It's not something that is systematically coached, I.E ablett going into every tackle gouging.
3. It's not specifically 3rd men in. It's where they are going in.

Oh well I suppose if he only gouges players in scuffles that's ok. If that's Mcdermott's attitude no wonder Ablett's the way he is. Maybe he should address the issues within his own club rather than turning a blind eye to them?

No one has said it was ok. I pointed out the fact it happened in a scuffle to illustrate the fact it wasn't a premeditated act. Whereas those type of tackle are. But instead of debating the point you are just deflecting. Classic defence mechanisms. I'll not elaborate on this issue because I don't want to go there so I'll just point out something someone else did.

I'm not deflecting, I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of it. If anyone is deflecting it's McDermott since his player gouged someone and he points the finger at Wigan. Like I said, some people need to sort their own houses out or their holier than thou posturing looks pretty phony.

He was asked about the Tautai tackle last week after the match and he answered, he was asked about Wane's comments after this weeks match and he answered. Hardly deflecting by answering the questions put to him. If somebody asked him about a possible gouge by Ablett and he declined to talk about it and changed subject then you'd have a point, but since they didn't then you don't have anything. I doubt minutes after the game ended he was online checking out all the stills opposition fans had posted of the Ablett incident to even know about it.

| Brian Mac said what RL supporters of clubs other than Wigan have been saying for ages - that type of reckless, unnecessary tackle technique is a scourge on the game and should be stamped out. I can't see how anyone can find that to be controversial - it's undeniably the case.

Thing is as well, that after the Wigan game his initial comments he did his best to not point the finger at Wane or Wigan or even Tautai. He just wanted to point towards that type of tackle in the game in general.
Yet Wane had to play the victim card and accuse McDermott of trying to influence the disciplinary.....why would we btw as we are entering the Middle 8's so the length of Tautai's ban has no effect on us.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure you Leeds fans would do the same when Wane answers a question posed to him.

He's absolutely spot on, the RFL are absolutely culpable in what happens both on and off the field. By allowing certain aspects of the game to slide they by definition do not discourage it, the nature of some human beings to try to get away with as much as they can not just in sport but in life as a whole is obvious and has gone on since when we were in caves (Wane is mentally still there at times).
If it were my leg that got broken or I had to give up my career due to an injury/incident from a tackle like this (& the wigan player isn't the only one nor will he be the last) I would be taking a course of legal action against the RFL for recompense and to force them to change how they run the game, that laying out exactly why they have not done enough and basically ignored the safety of players on field by not addressing the problem as highlighted by BM and many others.
The RFL make a big noise about player welfare and reducing injuries but it's come to a point where if BM is saying players are fearful of what might happen when they are stood up in a tackle then you know there is something seriously, seriously wrong.
1 game bans for that type of tackle is like a £60 FPN for speeding at 100mph in a 30 zone

I think the finger should point to Wane as far as hypocrisy goes, maybe he doesn't know the meaning of it and perhaps he thinks its some sort of pelvic bone disease. As far as gouging is concerned I should imagine Ablett is very poor standard in comparison to Gareth Hock.
McDermott's comments were very neutral and balanced in the context of the sport, his opinion on Krap Wane was a surprise but probably quite valid over the last 4 weeks, Wane needs to wind his neck in, but that might be difficult because I don't think he's got one.
