| Quote: Gronk! "Think the other thing apart from the Widnes fans is LSV should never get another international/Cup semi due to how poor the stewards were, they totally failed in the duties they had and weren't enough of them. There's no way those "fans" should have been able to get on the pitch let alone past half way.
The Police (Greater Manchester, I assume?) were also embarrassingly bad, it took 2 minutes for them to get from the corner of the stadium they were in to the Widnes end and then they did nothing but stand around looking gormless.
Until they sort out Stewarding, they shouldn't be allowed show piece events again.'"
The LSV have hosted a number of high profile events, rugby and non-rugby based, and they have not had trouble there before. I imagine they judged the number of stewards to be appropriate for a rugby league game given the lack of trouble previously. I imagine the GMP judged the game to be low risk based on the lack of trouble generally at rugby league games. While both sets of officials might have responded quicker, I'm not sure the LSV can be held responsible for the actions of fans although unfortunately other clubs may now have to pay more money to fund a greater police and stewarding presence because of this trouble. These Widnes fans will have a lot to answer for.
Look North West on the BBC which is a programme that hardly ever mentions rugby league even though there are numerous clubs within their area has led with this story on their sports section. Thankfully they didn't show pictures of it happening. But they then segued on to a story about rugby union with 'on a brighter note', which is just the kind of comparison rugby league doesn't need.
I feel sorry for the Widnes club and the decent Widnes fans. Maybe Widnes should be charged with providing an extra police presence at all away games to shepherd their fans until such time as the whole group behave properly.
I also feel sorry for the Cas fans and players who were deprived of an opportunity to celebrate what was a great achievement for their own club.

| The Football Offences Act 1991 actually only applies to Association Football and does not cover Rugby League. Obviously they could be done for public disorder offences/assault etc. Trespass (onto the pitch) is a civil case which in most cases is a pain in the for the landowner to follow through with.

| My own club has had issues with a few mindless idiots that seem to of been addressed thankfully.
Yesterday was a disgrace,,there seems to be a culture among some men to drink and take drugs and then act like this.
Also every time trouble happens we get "there not real fans" well some of them lads yesterday had widnes colours on so in my eyes they are representing the widnes club and put a dark cloud over the club and all it's decent folk.
I'm no lover of cas but from what iv seen they behaved well and didn't deserve the widnes fans attempts at spoiling there day, hope you all got home safe.

Take a look at them - just plain thick.

| Get the posters up around Widnes today and they'll all be ID'd within 4 hours. Put them up at workplaces too. If they're not ID', banned, presented for prosecution then Widnes as a club and a town don't care and should have to play behind closed doors until the end of the season and banned from the CC for a couple of years.

| Seems like the club saw what was coming - they tweeted asking people to keep off the playing area at the end of the match (although that may be convention?).

| For £20 would you want to face off with over 100 drunk yobs intent on getting onto the pitch? Don't blame the stewards, most are just supporters giving their time to the club. They are told to calm the situation down, don't chase pitch invaders as it makes matters worse, diffuse the situation and let the professionals handle it. The police were slow. Once they moved in the Widnes fans moved back. However the 'fault' lies with the individuals who spoilt a great game and ruined the day for all the true supporters of rugby league. I would hope they are never allowed to step foot in a sports ground again - not just a league ground, why pass these yobs on to other sports?

| I should be delighted this morning....but I feel sad.
Sad that we couldn't celebrate reaching Wembley for the first time in a generation with the players after the game. Having to see paramedics tend to a women punched senseless by a "fan" and the mascots attacked. Then hearing of the problems at the Widnes end and our team coach getting bottled.
Why can't people just enjoy these event without the need to get so drunk?.
I may have one drink at Wembley in a couple of weeks...but that will be it. I want to remember and enjoy every moment of the day regardless of the result.

That's my feelings right now too. It completely took the gloss off the match when we couldn't even clap our team off the pitch.

That's a bit over the top, misjudged and stupid, but it's not child abuse.

Was the woman punched senseless by a fan? It was reported on the news a lady sprained her ankle. Genuine question by the way as I couldn't see from where I was sat.
