The players are excused for some of the errors that happened during the game because of the conditions.
They are not excused for that pitifully poor game of RL though. The weather didn't force the game to be so utterly awful, the players did.
Quote: Cronus "You're answered your own comment there. Wigan played the conditions better. There were errors on both sides but Wigan made fewer.'"
And it still doesn't alter the fact that it was probably the worst CCF in living memory.
Quote: Cronus "Please point out where I've tried to persuade anyone the game wasn't "so bad"? Oh, I haven't. You're not doing very well here.'"
Even if I'm doing very badly, I'm still being 5,000 times more entertaining than the players at Wembley were today.
So if you're not trying to persuade anyone that the game wasn't so bad, wtf are you doing?

So presumably some mystical force reduced all the players' skill levels just prior to kick-off? Or perhaps they forgot their job is to entertain neutrals rather than play for the win, which also means playing to the conditions?
But you're rightAnd it still doesn't alter the fact that it was probably the worst CCF in living memory.'"
Was pretty poor, as I've repeatedly acknowledged.

On a RL discussion forum? A forum for discussing RL? A place online to chat about rugby league? Somewhere people exchange views on the sport of rugby football league?
Dunno.

| Quote: JEAN CAPDOUZE "If the French powerhouse club Catalans Dragons had had their best team, or even close to their best team, available for their quarter final against Hull FC, they probably would have been playing at Wembley today in place of the Clueless Losers. The Catalans, with Dureau, Bosc, Webb, Casty, Pelissier, Fakir and Duport in form, would have given it to the Wigan team in attack, and made it an interesting game with an international flavour.
Instead we were served up this disgraceful tedium, punctuated by schoolboy errors, where the stand off for Hull drops the ball twice in crucial moments, and the only attacking flair comes from the novice full back and the replacement hooker. Hull FC is not a team that is ready for the Big Time, it is not a team good enough for Finals competition. It is merely a fitting symbol of the parlous state of rugby league in England under the management of Nigel Wood.'"
You are an idiot.

I say it again, Double standards from wigan fans, they scorn at leeds grand final wins and bemoan the playoffs blah blah, yet they're gonna come on here and squawk about beating leigh, london, widnes hull kr and a 10th rate hull team?
'"
They're were all superleague teams the last time I checked?.. With the exception of leigh of course. Not our fault the standard is so low. There was no arguements in 2011 when we beat saints wire and leeds to win the trophy..
The game was crap yesterday, Off course it was, But I genuinely didn't expect anything different, it's typical of Rugby League fans to just do nothing but moan about the sport that they "love".
Hull were absolutely dire and Wigan just went through the motions and did what they needed to do.
There was about 20 minutes of torrential rain last year btw and then the sun came back out... absolutely nothing like the game yesterday.

Agreed. What a totally pointless point he was trying to make. Catalan were knocked out. Yet should have played for the reason of being French. Why not saints Warrington Doncaster Wrexham in fact anyone who was not good enough to make the final.

| In response to the original question, without doubt it's the worst cup final I've ever seen. I've no doubt Hull will be moaning about the ball as an excuse for their appalling handling, but a lot of the dropped ball bounced straight off chests, arms, shoulders without even touching a players hands. I found it embarrassing to watch to be honest.

| I remember a spell of heavy rain in both the previous finals. On each occasion Leeds had been trailing, but lifted their game during the rain and brought the scores closer.
Yesterday's rain was heavier during the schools final and there was more skill in that match than the stars served up later. Is the Wycombe loose forward with an academy? He was putting in great hits and scored four times.

| As a neutral what you want most of all is a competitive game.
At the match i genuinely thought it was competitive, i spent most of the second half waiting for Hull to do something because they had to at some point. I didn't really feel comfortable until about 4 mins to go and only started celebrating when Sam scored. I thought it was a tense and exciting final played in dreadful conditions (there were football games abandoned in the capital).
However, having watch the game at home without the tension, for the neutral it was a poor game, nowhere near as bad as some are suggesting. It must have been incredibly frustrating for the Hull fans. Tactically we got it spot on, for them i thought Miller froze and we forced Holdsworth to make over 30 tackles, those combined contributed massively to the result. Defences were certainly on top, in those conditions they usually are as it's harder to attack therefore easier to defend. There was a Leeds fan in front of me (nice lady BTW), she commented after about 60 how poor the game was, i replied if Hull had taken the 3 easily kickable penalties and it was 8 - 6 instead of 8 nil what would you think then? As a spectacle all it needed was a few points from Hull and you have a very different perspective of the game.

You missed my point. I didn't say that Catalans should have played because they were French. I mentioned the fact that they were French as a bonus, giving an international flavor to the event. The main reason why Catalans would have been more worthy opponents is that, at full strength, they would have served up a much more competitive attack than what the Hull Dropsies were able to mount, and thus made the game more entertaining for all and sundry.

| Just watching back on iplayer now. The defensive speed and reads that Hull manage are immense! OK, there was too much dropped ball, some of which can be attributed to weather and some to big game nerves, but how anyone can not appreciate the clinical and brutal defence on display is beyond me and I've no doubt it is indicative of the type of fan who thinks lots of points on the board are all that's needed for "entertainment". There is more than one dimension to rugby league, try to enjoy them all you miserable gets!

True, but that was half the problem, Hull were dire, they looked completely incapable of scoring!
I'm a Hull KR fan, I have no anti-Wigan agenda (apart touch in-goal tries ) and I was obviously pleased that Wigan won yesterday, well, pleased that Hull lost to be more precise. But I'm also a RL fan and I want to see good, skillful, open games. Unfortunately yesterdays game was dross.
For me the most embarrassing part is that Hull KR managed to lose to Hull FC a few weeks ago

I don't think that it's a coincidence that Wigan fans thought it was ok, everybody else thought it was crap...

Everyone? Or a handful of "fans" who never have anything positive to say about the sport ever, let alone a Wigan success? It might not have been a classic in sunny weather with free flowing rugby but anyone saying it was the worst ever is embarrassing their self. There was plenty to like if you actually like rugby league rather than just liking tries.
