Not particulary bothered regarding the sky coverage as I will be attending the game on the day but it does strike me as odd.

Initially thought widnes wakey would be a wooden spoon game to kick the season off, but actually thinking about it that's from last year and lazy thinking from me. I can sort of see why the wakey game is on the box, not so sure on Salford, not the biggest fan of watching them, but I won't be doing anything drastic like cancelling sky etc.

As said I support one of the "big" teams and while not bothered as I will be going to the game, if you are lucky enough to support one of them teams you will get to see more of your team playing than others.
Was a bit puzzled by the choice at first but had time to think and not too bothered now

Indeed. I found 21-12's attempt at trolling rather painful.
While standee is the laughing stock of this forum, he is an actual bina fide troll!

That kind of common sense outlook will never catch on around here.

Dont know if anyone has suggested this but wouldnt it be a good idea to have the magic weekend fixtures on the opening day as regular season fixtures.

Wigan v Saints 24k
Hull Fc v Hull Kr 24k
Bulls v Leeds 20k
Wire v Widnes 15k
Salford v Hudds 12k
Cas v Wakey 10k
Catalan v London 10k

That works out at an average of over 16k, would set a new weekly record attendance in SL and would certainly get the season of to a flyer. I think all estimated attendances are realistic as its the opening weekend. Unsure of the Salford game but hopefully loads will turn up as its the first game at the ground. It would get some much needed publicity before the press start creaming themselves about the 6 Nations.

At the very Least I would have 2 derby matches on the opening weekend probably Wigan v Saints or Leeds v Bulls and the Hull Derby. Gotta get people interested from the word go and I dont think Widnes v Wakey will do that. Widnes v Wire would do though.

SL should have fixed the fixtures for wk1 so the season starts with a bang.

Widnes v Warrington
Hull v Leeds

should be the games for the opening weekend of Sky imo.

The average audience for the opening televised fixture on Sky Sports 1 last Friday, Widnes Vikings v Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, was higher than any other opening weekend televised game in the Super League era and was 75 per cent up on the average weekly audience in 2011.

Quote: morleys_deckchair "No offence to the 4 clubs playing... But that's a ridiculous opening set of fixtures for sky to show.'"

Quote: morleys_deckchair "the first half of the season fixtures that Sky have chosen are garbage, my subscription is getting cancelled tonight.

as for Widnes and Salford starting the season, a total joke.'"

Quote: morleys_deckchair "Hull v Warrington has top quality players in it. It also has the potential to be a close game. There will be a 14,000+ crowd no doubt, which presents a good image for the sport.

Contrast to 5,000 at the Stobart with one end completely empty and an amateurish game between two no hopers.

Having the trash teams on SKY is just a bad idea, which pollutes public perception of the sport. We should get the big games, the big crowds and the entertaining games on SKY in order to raise the profile of the sport.'"

Well done to our resident pundits icon_wink.gif .

Where do you get 12k watching Salford v Shudds and you might struggle to get 24k into the halliwell jones, also Bulls Rhinos more like 13-14k

What a tool.

Guaranteed Widnes and Wakey won't get a pat on the back for this icon_lol.gif

I'd expect something along the lines of... "It could have been anyone and they would have got those figures."

Or

"If it had been any of the 'MASSIVE' clubs on SKY then it would have been 200% increase."

Or

"People only watched it because of the iPitch"

Or "It was cold on Friday night so more people stayed in!"

Standee sure told Sky icon_cool.gif

FWIW Well done Widnes and Wakefield.
