Draft a press release; leave it in the outbox. Rangi Chase not in NZ Squad. Send from Outbox. Simples.

Remember Mauri Faasavalu a couple of seasons back.
Cant remember anyone up in arms over this player in an england shirt.
It happens in every sport.

As far as I'm concerned McNamara should have told Chase to sling his hook as he should have declared his intention to play for England much, much earlier in the season as other players have in the past. Where's the pride in beating the Aussies if it's done with New Zealand's cast offs?'"
Like Mauri Faasavalu.

There was actually a similarly poor reaction to that particular selection if memory serves me right?
In Fa'asavalu's defence, he didn't have another nation to represent in the Four Nations, unlike Chase. That's not to say I agreed with Fa'asavalu's inclusion.

They were.
But this is why English RL has been so far behind, every other country will pick the best players available to them no matter where they were born - England are starting to do so now and it's about time too.
Some people on here were sulking because others were saying Harrison Hanson isn't English - well he chose not to play for England yet when someone who qualifies for England on the same grounds as him does want to play for England everyone is up in arms about a "non-Englishman" being picked

As he has said, he din't know that he was eligible then. He is making a life in England and now wants to play for his adopted country. If he has a right to do so, what's the problem?
If this helps make our international team more competitive, I'm all for it.
Would you turn down Jack Reed? He is English but, other than with a period playing in Yorkshire amateur teams, largely Australian trained and living in Australia. Similar story with Gareth Widdop. Neither can be said to be products of the English pro game. They are both products of the Australian system.
I would be happy with any of these players and, indeed, any player who qualifies to play for England who can add quality and depth to the squad. If this gets us a little closer to the Aussies and NZ then it is worth it.
As I wrote earlier, we've done it before with Faasavalu. I understand the misgivings some people have and the fact that it leaves less options for young English players but, if they are good enough, they'll get their chance.

You do realise that Hansen is a British citizen, grew up in England, went to school in England, played all of his junior rugby in England and represented England at Academy level, don't you? Very different scenarios as far as I'm concerned.

Yet after all that he chose not to represent England, where as Rangi Chase wants to play for England and opted to play for England as soon as he knew he was allowed to do so. IMO that makes Chase more English because he wants to represent the country.

If he wants to represent England so much then he can apply for a British passport.

Bingo he was desperate to play for NZ few weeks back... If he wa so passionate about playing for England surely he would have known the exact date he became eligible.
Pepe Reid and Widdop were both born English and it's their right to represent that nation from birth. Not even convinced on Reid as said was a Quernslander through and through few months back, similar with Heighington.
Fact is in comparison to Aus, NZ we are taking these players because they CAN'T get a game for the other side which is embarrassing and a blow to this Englisj lads desperate to play for THEIR Country!

Do you really believe that if Chase had the choice between playing for N.Z or England, he would have picked England?
Many posters like yourself are of the persuasion that ‘If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.
Others, like myself, would like to see the World Cup won by a bunch of lads from England, and never the twain..
