| Quote: Nozzy "Mount Pleasant is still the best place to visit in RL. Especially in summer.
Great selection of proper good food, at affordable prices. Decent drinks you can buy without feeling ripped off. A bloody beer garden behind the stand for gods sake
That's a fair call Nozzy. The set up there is brilliant, pub 50 yds from the ground. Sat outside if it's sunny with the Batley fans and a bit of a banter. Nice tidy little ground too these days and a good atmosphere in the away end.
Always promised myself that i'd go to a Batley-Dewsbury game there if it was a big enough occasion to sell it out. Reckon a Northern Rail Cup Semi would do it or a big playoff match.

I'm not Bazza but once again many thanks.
I have just googled Mount Pleasant (I'd never heard of the place)
The resulting photo leads me to believe they chose the name after a 'Lets find the least likely name to describe a run down looking Rugby League ground somewhere in the north of England' competition

| Actually Bazza - your material wouldn't look out of place at the variety club. It doesn't surprise me either that there's another Rugby League ground you've never heard of.
Time to change your username again . . . . .

To be fair Phipps, if someone posted a picture of the best stadium on the planet you'd still have a go at it even though you've never been there.
Notice how you picked the old grainy picture in the drizzle rather than the nicer, sunnier, more modern picture. Which is unfortunately taken from inside the nicest stand at the ground.

Then you are missing out on an excellent RL experience. Definately one of my favourite away grounds. A good club, playing good RL on a quirky pitch providing a great value day out. Your loss mate.

The soul has gone from the sport , virtually all the stadia built now are the same , they lack atmpsphere unless they are almost full , in many you no longer have the choices you had before to stand or sit where you wanted to , which stadium draws the biggest support ? , then one that is almost unchanged for 60 odd years , the one that gives you the option of standing or sitting either alongside or at the end of the pitch , the one with old style food and drink vending

I get the fact that in the 1990s clubs were on their last legs in many towns and at financial breaking point (many with the liabilities that their old ground represented).
I loved my visits to Thrum Hall (where i watched games against Halifax but also Ovenden in the Challenge Cup), Cas has always been a favourite away visit and I'm thankful that I got to experience Central Park, Wilderspool, Hilton Park, the Watersheddings and Station Road. But...
The Sheddings had barrier tape up around much of the ground on my last visit (in the grounds last year) - it had become unsafe to open parts. Similarly, Station Road was a hefty ground much of which was closed off - imagine the costs of maintaining that with what - 2,000 fans max? These grounds were liabilities - and ever increasing liabilities in many cases as their state of dis-repiar became worse and the standards expected by H&S (and paying customers!) increased. It is probably is not a coincidence that those clubs financially fell apart - not because they 'lost' their ground as an asset, but because their ground was a cost they coudn't afford and had left them in debt. Do you 'get that'? I might have enjoyed my visits but my head told me that those places wouldnt last - they couldn't in the condition they were in and there was no money there to be invested in what would be a sunk cost anyway.
things change - if you want to think that the past was always better than so be it - but that is precisely why the sport needed to change so dramatically just to ensure it survived. FWIW, the sport still has its soul - but is now has better facilities too.
And did Hilton park have atmosphere when empty? not from what I remember! That's just the case for any ground that is empty modern or old - and I remember a bare Hilton Park as much as i know a bare Willows now - the atmosphere can be flat.

| As far as an atmosphere during the game goes, the North Stand at the LSV has more atmosphere than Hilton Park for me.

I like Hilton Park Jonny.
Plenty of places to park, decent food too I found although a little expensive for what it was. Loads of people were there when I went and the toilets were clean too.
A big thumbs up for Hilton Park I say.

A 2,500 crowd at Hilton park had a good atmosphere , with all sides in use , 2,500 in the LSV with 2 sides in use doesn't , and a 2,500 crowd is a good Championship crowd unfortunatley

| Hilton Park was a great ground, a good atmosphere from the Tommy Sale Stand. I miss that Sh1t hole
Must admit LSV does generate an atmosphere and it has a decent place to hang my flags.
Batley btw is a great place to go, very friendly, serves great food and we won the league there! Happy Days
