If thats a red we may aswell just start playing touch and pass. And maybe not on this thread but plenty on others saying the its not, some saying it is as well but it’s certainly not cut and dry, that will happen in others fames mostly weeks and won’t be a red and you know it.

For the referees out there: what do the laws of the game actually say about one player knocking the ball out of the hands of another player when both players are contesting the ball in the air? I'm curious about the factual accuracy of comments just made by a video referee. Note this is definitively not a tackle in the air, it is a contest for the ball in the air, when both players are in the air. Is there a law that prevents a player from knocking the ball out one on one, or has the video referee just made that up?

You can say the same about a player attempting to pass the ball backwards, clearly the ref didn't call for a knock on but asked to see if the ball went forward in which they can't look for a forward pass, video showed no knock on but no evidence to prove it went either and had to go with the call of no try

It's these discrepancies within the game that infuriates fans on what they see

Thing is the video referee specifically said it wasn't allowed for one player in the air to knock the ball out of the hands of the other player in the air whilst both, by his own acknowledgment, were legitimately challenging. The video referee's rationale was not that it was a forward pass (which he cannot adjudicate on) or a knock forward (which it wasn't, and he never claimed it was), nor was it a tackle in the air. I have this funny feeling that the specific rationale for the decision given by the video referee simply doesn't exist within the laws, that's what I'm actually curious about. I know we have people in this board who are more familiar with the laws than I am, so I'm genuinely interested to know if this is a real law or if it is an interpretation that isn't directly supported by the laws?
