Yes, but Greater Manchester is a borough, not a town. I wish Swinton well, but it wont make a jot of difference, as people have said, Salford don't get supporters from the wider Manchester conurbation and it's 4 miles closer to Manchester.

If they had to adopt the Manchester name what would have been wrong with Manchester Swinton Lions. Seems to work ok for Aussie teams, Cronulla Sutherland, St George Illawarra etc. Could have been a good branding thing; using ‘MSL’ on leisurewear etc.

True, Swinton aren’t exactly a household name currently, but you can’t just disregard 100+ years of history.
