I understand most Widnes fans hate his approach to generating revenue. I personally think a lot of what he says makes sense:
1. Town is currently not providing the number of fans required to fund the chicken that will lay the egg and bring the fans back.
2. The town is limited in size so we could never get the number of fans some of the cities do.
3. You get a bigger return (commercial sponsorship) going after those parties than you do going after more fans.
People say "oh you need to fund the first team, focus on rugby, etc" but don't actually say how they expect him to pay for it to begin with.'"
I would imagine Michael Carter at Wakefield has less income and money to play with, yet they still manage to build a competitive team and actually have some ambition. I don't think Widnes fans are expecting old Trafford appearances, but they at least want the club to try and get to Wembley or have a serious crack at the play-offs. Instead they get a club who literally just want to survive in SL. |

In all seriousness, I feel for Betts. Maybe he has his hands tied by management. He always looks stressed. However, he doesn't get the best out of the players he has. Some of the team selections are really weird. There virtually zero tactics shown by the team we have.
Clearly the show of force by fans last week worked. I've never seen them go after management so forwardly until last week where even the people in the South Stand were screaming at the CEO to go from a few rows away.

or maybe he does get the best out of the players, small squad, cheap squad, and they compete well in most games rarely get a good hiding. Betts and his side kick Cassidy may be a great coaching team with money to spend and a good to very good squad. maybe is rebate is simple, keep the team in super league as cheap as possible develop a good youth system and pathway to the first team. and that is what he appears to be doing. |

I don't think that's the case. He's playing people in positions they're not used to. There are sparks of decent plays and then half time talk comes round and we get nilled. The team has shown they can play with flair, it just seems to be that hardly ever happens. He's been here a long time now. |

Asking people to buy a poor product so that you have the funds to make the product better. That doesn't happen in any other business. Fans are not investors they are customers. |

True, but this isn't any other type of business. If you don't have any cash you can't make those initial investments without going into debt. Need a Koukash or build up slowly. |
