| Quote DGM="DGM"I knew it wouldn't be long before the old "it'll just be the England players anyway" comments.
It probably will, well done for pointing that out, but so what? "Great Britain" is a brand, it's iconic in our sport. We know that Wales, Scotland & Ireland don't produce home-grown players of adequate standard at the moment, but the difference is at least those nations will be playing regular matches for the intervening three years, making it not necessary for players who do pledge to those nations to represent England during that time.'"
The Rugby League fanbase is already saturated with enough that's going on, with many already disillusioned, no doubt blaming Nigel Wood for the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.
We need more new fans, those who grumble about the good old days when the players came straight out of the pub onto the pitch ain't going to help us expand. They don't even like johnny foreigner using their own money to fund their own team, because it isn't based in Cumbria.
Clearly Great Britain isn't what it was, or else we wouldn't be heading into darkness with Brexit and Indyref 2.0.
But that's my thoughts...

Many fans have wanted it back, some have always said what's the point so what's the issue if the above posted has always had the latter view?

I wouldn't refer to it as an issue, just making a point that whatever happens in RL you can guarantee it'll be moaned about.

| Think it's a good idea. GB is a brand that traditional RL fans love. It's a brand that people new to the sport get or have exposure to through athletics or RU.
If done properly. I.E. GB for most games and home nations for WC and WC qualifying it might actually open up the player pool for smaller nations because they won't feel they are handcuffed away from the big games. Guys like Ben Currie or in the future Regan Grace can continue to put their hand up for Ireland or Wales, without fear of missing out on regular matches especially against top opposition, as they can play for GB.
Smart move all round.

There is no point to bringing back Great Britain. The team will be exactly the same as the England team.

| It's also a terrible decision to scrap the massively successful Four Nations tournament, which has seen attendances rise year after year. The Four Nations gave the opportunity for France, Wales, Scotland, PNG and Samoa all to play 3 games against Aus, NZ and Eng, it also takes away 2nd tier Nations tournaments actually meaning something, as was the case when Four Nations qualification was up for grabs.

Maybe at first but did we not have a lot of x union players in the old days that made up the GBL and they stuck around for some years and were good league players maybe just maybe it will happen again

I think the 4 Nations had to become at least 5 or 6 Nations for it to really help develop the 2nd tier nations.
What I'd rather have is an annual, mid-season 5 Nations in both Britain and Australia.
So a 5 Nations of:
England
Scotland
Wales
Ireland
& France
And a separate 5 Nations of:
Australia
New Zealand
Papua New Guinea
Fiji
Samoa
4 games, no final. Top of the league wins.
That would then give all those 2nd tier nations 4 guaranteed games in a top tier competition every year. That kind of stability would be a massive boost to the 2nd tier nations in my opinion.
