Overpaying one player per team will not drastically improve the competition. You are not going to see elite players move to SL because of this. What you are likely to see is infighting within clubs when one player is paid a hugely overstated contract and ultimately clubs overspending again and going bankrupt.

The last time clubs were allowed to spend what they liked on players, Wigan spent so much the club went bankrupt, lost it's historic ground and was saved only by Dave Whelan needing them for the stadium planning application.

What exactly has been approved? Can you now pay a single player anything you like and only £200k counts? Or does nothing count?

Rugby League has been small time for too long. Union and the NRL basically look down on us. One player won't change the salary cap affect that much.

Do people actually realise what this could mean? Inglis, Burgess etc could be playing in Super League next season. Leeds fans will be hoping for Widdop or Cronk to take over Sinfield. You're gonna have big games where the head to heads are going to be huge. Money talks. Koukash especially will throw an unbelieveble amount of money at one of the biggest names in world rugby to get them to SL. That is not only good for Salford but for the Rugby League as a whole.

So Cronk gets £750,000 a season. Great for the competition and the club. How then do Ryan Hall, Kallum Watkins, Zac Hardaker feel when he's earning in one season what they will take 6 or 7 years to earn?

It's a daft rule.

Don't all leeds players play for the love of the club and not high wages!??

Except they're not.

The biggest names in the NRL are not going to sacrifice their representative ambitions to come earn a few extra quid in SL. Simply isn't going to happen.

You might get a few big names coming to the end of their careers (like Cronk) who decide that their time in Origin/Internationals is up and they may as well cash in, but it's sheer flight of fancy to suggest that the likes of Inglis are suddenly going to jack all that in to come play for Wigan.

What will happen in many cases is that clubs will use the marquee rule to pay one of their existing stars a bit more. Singling out that player as the "marquee" signing is then likely to cause his team mates to wonder why they can't get the same deal, and whether the grass might be greener somewhere else.

We may have seen only 4 clubs win the trophies but we have had the likes of Cas, hudds, catalan and fc getting to finals

it's done nothing of the sort. It's failed hugely to even the competition.

garry hetherington and Simon moran both proposed a marquee allowance before koukash even bought Salford.

Imagine the premier league without the top 6/7 teams. You'd have teams such as Stoke and West Ham in the top 2/3. This is what we have now and we need to improve the quality of the sport in this country in order for it to grow

Looking at the league table this season says differently

Look at results, ok come play offs some teams don't handle it well but twice catalan have been a game away from old Trafford, at the cost of some dodgy refereeing decisions

And look who wins the premier league every season, the same rich clubs and has done more damage to the England national team

So why no public interest before koukash
