| As a KR fan I wish Sky had shown cycling on Friday night.

| There's going to be outrage next summer when the BBC start covering that Olympic thing rather than Batley v Workington.

| While I enjoy listening to the Sunday RL programme on Radio Leeds they got this one right.
The Tour De Yorkshire was a really good event and, as others have said, will take place once a year. The "normal" show was also still available on another (albeit on a rather outdated medium)
Don't be surprised if they have to do the same next week for election fallout.

| Quote ThePrinter="ThePrinter"I can watch and sit through pretty much any sport (I actually enjoy the track cycling), but i tried watching a bit of this cycling this weekend.....my good god it's absolutely dire. A friend posted a video of themselves at the event just as the riders shot past in a blink of an eye and that was it, done.
How on earth that sport has become so popular is a mystery to me. Has to be the worst sport I've ever tried to watch and I include those niche ones you only see at olympics or find late on Sky Sports like ten-pin bowling.
(This isn't a whine or anything to do about RL popularity btw so we don't need the inevitable facts and figures posted with a "yeah but look at their numbeers")'"
I'm sure the BBC will take your comments on board when the TdY comes around again next year!

I bet it's not a one-off now they've seen how many sheep-like people they can get to watch it

Didn't actually complain about them covering it. Completely understandable given the interest in it.....I just can't for the life of me see why people enjoy watching it.

You have no right to have a say on this as you don't pay for the BBC like lots of us do.

much more interesting the F1. If you understand the tactics it enhances the viewing no end. I cant for the life of me understand how mediocre soccer at leeds and huddersfield can attract higher crowds than top quality at both places but it does

I get the jist of the tactics but the whole team element is actually what I dislike when you consider one person takes the glory. Tried watching a bit when Wiggins won the TDF a few years and think the notion of a sport where the person who spent a lot of time in 2nd place (Froome) could never challenge the leader just daft.
Make it every man for himself I reckon. It's like watching one of those ridiculous long distance races when the Kenyans or Ethopians work in team to get one guy the win. Doesn't hold anything for me that, let everybody race and see whose the best.

| I'm a very keen cyclist but having radio coverage of a full days racing is stretching it a bit in one sense, there's only so much that can happen on the road so it takes a very good commentator to 'fill in' the dull bits (of which there can be loads in cycle races!)
TdY was actually a very good event, especially since it's its first incarnation, massively supported not just by cyclists but by plenty whom might only just watch the Olympics if at all.
It's part and parcel of getting people on bikes, whether that be goiing out with the kids at the w/e, nipping to the shops, commuting a couple of days a week to work instead of using the car, joining the CTC or local club or indeed taking it up really seriously. There's a huge, huge social benefit to everyone the more people cycle and gaining interest in cycling and promoting it through media is an essential part of that.
Printer; tactics used in many sports differ, especially team events, in one way modern professional cycling is the ultimate in team work (it was less so in days gone by) but just because you don't truly understand and/or dislike something doesn't make it wrong or 'daft'.
It is every team for themselves and usually the best person within that team is the leader as they have the greatest overall chance of success, many cyclists are just not capable of winning the big races or indeed the 'lesser' ones and so become part of a team that helps his leader/team to win by sacrificing himself for the greater good, that's what ultimate team work is about IMO.
