What is shocking about this game is the refereeing. Utterly bottled it in the first half. He's calls the captains out after the game drifts out of control. He said it has to stop. Then McIlorum deliberately attack Peacocks head. Doesn't matter that it wasn't the most spectacular high shot ever, it's the intent that should see him sent off. The cannon ball tackles are going to end a career soon, the RFL need to stamp it out pronto.

Another thing really annoying me is how the ref lets Wigan decide when the game starts and resumes. Drop out? Up to Wigan to decide when they kick it, they can have a 5 minute break if they like. Superb gamesmanship from Wigan, they really do control every aspect of the game, but the referees have got to be stronger.

Stark contrasts between the Hull Derby and the Leeds Wigan game

Hull player sent off for an accidental high tackle in a game with none of the needle we saw in the following game. Wigan captain told to calm the game down, ignores him and a deliberate high tackle results in a yellow card, referee has to have the guts to pull the red. I'm fed up off referees deciding they can't use red cards in big games because they might be spoiled. It's exactly that attitude that allows foul play to destroy the enjoyment of what should be a game full of skill and hard but fair tackles.

The commentary team were much better for the Hull game too, commentating on what they saw, praising the good, pointing out and then moving on from the bad. Eddie and Stevo commentating to the story they decided this morning, Wigan missing players and triumphing over adversity and ignoring Leeds are also missing key players. As usual looking for the controversy rather than just enjoying the good parts of the game, Wigan and Ryan Bailey sadly giving them what they wanted today.

Christ you'd think we were playing tiddly winks the way some of you are carrying on. The difference between the Hull high tackle and Micky Mac's is stark: the former nearly took his head off, accidental or not. The latter was overly aggressive but first contact was around the shoulders, it was just poorly controlled. Yellow was about right just to cool things off but really there wasn't much in it. Had there not been trouble before I'd expect penalty and a talking to, no more.
