Quote I heard Koukash's comments as reported here www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-league/21642083 as they happened, but didn't catch Vievers' remarks. If that's accurate and Koukash is serious, I give Vievers until Monday lunchtime.'"
Damn, I was out by 24 hours.
Stop whining - best thing to happen to this game in ages, someone ready to rattle cages. Probably harsh on poor Phil Vievers TBH, but he'll be fine. Dr. K ain't going to get this job done by pussyfooting around.
Exactly the kind of dynamism we need. Good stuff.

| Salford need a club builder, someone with a proven track record at taking clubs on and improving them in every area. I've seen McClennan's name mentioned - god help them if that's the case. Tim Sheens would probably be OK if they can wait. Noble would be a safe pair of hands with a first team squad of journeymen but isn't the man to do what I think needs to be done.
To me, if he is interested, Brian Smith is the best candidate available. He's presently working part time with some inconsequential Aussie Rah Rah outfit so the only question is if he wants to come back to the UK.

| Quote BelleVueLifer="BelleVueLifer"Exactly my thoughts. Interim coach til the end of the season then sheens will come in, the entire salford squad will be released and sheens will be allowed to recruit who he wants at any cost. Plus there are literally hundreds of quality players who have conacts expiring at the end of this season, both here and in the NRL.....and money talks....whatever language you speak.....boot payment anyone....'"
Money talks and the salary cap speaks louder, I don't think you can develop a successful club with recruits alone, cheaper players who come through the academy mixed with the odd quality recruit seems to be a winning formula in this league.

| I should add there may be a limiting factor in Graham Lowe who has one of the longest enemies lists in Rugby League. Brian Smith is the kind of person I can imagine is on it.

| Ellery Hanley worth a punt? Would tie in with the good doc's apparent eagerness to attract big names,

| Quote Wheels="Wheels"If thats the case why not just keep Veivers until the end of the season?'"
For me, because it sends a message out to everyone else at the club about who's in charge, and how you're going to have to do something special to be in a job by the end of the year. Vievers may well be a scapegoat and I feel sorry for the guy, but its an occupational hazard of sports ( that he probably accepts ).

| Reality is if mr moneybags is going to attract top players to jump ship then they need a big money coach to attract them. Shame for veivers given what he put up with in the offseason but no room for sentiment in business.

Koukash will get the cap rules changed, just watch. Not by himself, but he'll get enough people on side to make it happen (and not before time). Money and success changes minds.

Vievers is First Coaching Casualty of 2013Salford City Reds have parted company with coach Phil Veivers just five games into a season which has seen them with just a single win. New millionaire owner Dr Marwan Koukash was furious after Salford's capitulation to London Broncos on Friday night and made it clear that no-one would be safe from his ambitious plans for a Red future.
Veivers follows director of football Steve Simms, and commercial director Tina Wilkinson, who left the club earlier and he has been replaced by Alan Hunte, in a caretaker role ahead of next weekend's match at Wakefield Wildcats.

| Koukash has a mish-mash of a team with no discernible talent.
Bringing in Brian Smith will ensure a 1st year preseason house-cleaning followed by a rapid rise up the table (though never a grand final victory) followed by a multi-year collapse of fortunes as his abrasive personality causes a decline in morale among many talented players. That is his record at Parramatta Eels, Newcastle Knights and Eastern Suburbs (Sydney) Roosters. Smith is the reason why Danny Buderus left Newcastle for Leeds, and only returned after Smith had left. Smith is the reason why Mitchell Pearce was fielding offers from other clubs before Smith was sacked. (Pearce just recently resigned for the Roosters).
Brian Smith is a one year near wonder and a long term disaster.

| Get Smith in for 1 year and he'd turn the club around.
Like MjM I do wonder about Lowe's influence.
