One of the major plus points for me about Trent Robinson was that he was a genuine French speaker.
The longevity of Catalans relies upon it being a genuine French club, not being centred around imported antipodeans.
Hopefully his skills asa coach are good enough. if they are, this is a massive plus for the franchise.

I think they have probably made this appointment based on the fact that he is French, can speak both English and French, and is a former Catalans player, rather than based on his coaching skills.

Hope I'm wrong, but he's very inexperienced, and this could be a huge risk. I would have thought that Jerome Guisset would have been in with a better shout, based on the fact that he's helped out with the French national side as well as the Dragons, and has had more experience in England.

But good luck Laurent, I always liked watching him play, not a bad stand off actually!

He's been the Dragons' assistant coach for the last 6 years I believe, under three different coaches. That's a fair bit of experience there.

Hopefully he'll be a great replacement for the Catalans. Makes you wonder if there is some stratergy in this for Les Cats. All their good coaches over the past few years have been pulled away by the offer of roles in the NRL or in the UK. Maybe this guy might stick around for more than a couple of years and build some stability into a good team
