There are a few who don't deserve a franchise although I think Salford have a stronger case than most but sadly its mainly based on the new ground.

So maybe it should be Widnes in, and 2 or 3 out with a 12 or 13 team SL...............

this 'its the FA cup semi final today' excuse for a lower than what might be expected crowd is a load of horsecrap. any true salford supporter who really gave a stuff would still watch salford. I support Liverpool FC, but if Widnes are playing the same day there is no contest, im watching Widnes every time.
im sure the same is true for the overwhelming majority of true supporters of rugby league teams.
everyone doesnt suddenly stop going to widnes games just because there is a big football match on. and widnes is full of mancs, scousers and evertonians.
i doubt very much widnes is unique.

Surely Salford wouldn't have planned to play there game at roughly the same time as the areas biggest sporting event for a number of years

you are from widnes, so support widnes first and football second. Most Salford fans will be football fans first and rugby fans second, the timing of this game was a disgrace

Barton will be full to capacity in a few years as old trafford will be half empty as city will have taken over the football kings of the area!
