NRL expansion? Sometime soon, maybe......:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_9857.jpg |

| I like them, for us finishing 7th wouldn't have felt much of an acheivement but reaching the playoffs does. Knocking FC out in a playoff game makes the season a great success
Reality is whilst the SL is still so disparate in talent spread playoffs or not the top 2 or 3 teams are always going to win it anyways generally.

So how is that fair we end 3rd, and could of ended playing two games away from home what kind of reward is that.
The top 4 should all get home draws straight away, why can't they just do a simple 1st vs 8th, 2nd vs 7th and so on, do a straight knock out.'"
You got the second chance after losing to Saints, but the price you paid for that defeat was to be away this weekend if you had beaten Huddersfield. Saints were rewarded for winning and you had to pay a price for losing. Nothing wrong with that.

| Right to the bloke above, this is the AFL system, I would prefer the NRL system but ours is the evolution of that.
If you want to give a much bigger benefit to the team finishing first have a top 7 where; first gets a bye 2v7, 3v6, 4v5 and straight to the semis 1st plays lowest ranked winner, cuts a week from the season and fairer all round imo.
Lastly how can someone complain about repeat fixtures then propose returning to the top 6??? that was the biggest waste of time because of that issue... madness.

If you hadn't rested 5 players against Quinns you could have had racked up a few points and had home advantage against Saints. You took a gamble, it didn't come off.

Play off system is how its (nearly) always been done in RL. League leaders deserve a bit more credit than is given at the moment but IMO the play offs are brilliant!!'"
If it's so brilliant why don't the fans bother to turn out and watch the plaff games? EVERY play off game has has a considerably lower attendance than a normal league game.

because finishing 1st woulden't be much of a reward under that system. Teams would be happy to settle for 4th and would rest players in the last round or 2 so that their players are fresh for the important games.

| I thought the original Top 5 play off system was the ideal. It gave the right level of reward to the teams finishing higher up the table, didnt reward mediocity, produced better quality games.

| Quote: RL13 "The playoff system was necessary prior to 1973/74 due to the fact teams didn't play everyone twice, thus creating an imbalance throughout the regular season, and you need [iimbalance[/i to justify a playoff system IMO - to which, one extra game ("magic weekend"icon_wink.gif doesn't create enough uncertainty that the team who finishes top shouldn't be champions.
Even in the NRL, there are 24 games played - from 16 teams. There are potentially 6 games missing from a straight home/away league season creating uncertainty, and not giving any team sufficient reasons for thinking they should be champions prior to the playoffs.'"
I couldn't have put that better myself. A perfect and reasoned explanation of why, with a 14 team league, the team finishing top are legitimate champions. The playoffs are a load of nonsense. The current system is just a ridiculous joke for our great sport. Have the Challenge Cup, the league, and the Premiership playoffs for the top 8. How can the league champions be decided by what , in effect, is a cup competion? You could add excitement to the Premiership Trophy by letting the winners of that play in the World Club Challenge. Perhaps have a 4 team WCC.

I thought the 6 team system had 1v2 for a place in the GF with the loser getting a home game against the winner of the rest? The 5 team system was the best IMO.
8 is too many teams for a 14 team league. As big an achievement as it was for Crusaders to make the playoffs they are still a team that finished in the bottom half of the league. System needs looking at.

| If we have to have playoffs, then the top 6 format needs to come back. With 14 teams, 6 is about right. You want the playoffs to be the elite, not the average. Everyone understood the top 6, and it was very advantageous to the top 2 which is what everyone wants so that there is more pressure on the league games. Under the top 8 format, finish 4th, win 1 game, and you get a home semi final. Totally not right.
If we have to stick to top 8, then the NRL system is needed. Personally i think the RFL will give the current system one more year then revert to the NRL system. Also scraps the ridiculous 'club call'

| What should have happened this week is Saints being at home to Leeds, with the winner going to the Grand Final, and Wigan being at home to Huddersfield. Next week the loser of the Saints-Leeds game would then be at home to the winner of the Wigan-Huddersfield game with the winner of that going to the Grand Final.
It would mean a five week playoff but this way all the top 4 would get two bites of the cherry and there would be no need for the clubcall.

Ive been pushing this idea for a while top half finish is better, no repeat games and chops a week off the season with every game an eliminator, it makes a lot of sense & I'd keep clubcall.
