| Quote: tb "The 10-point system was used for grading licenses once awarded (into A B or C) the licenses applications themselves were judged against four key areas. The question of whether they'll do that again, or use the grading system, now that it's in place, next time is, I think, moot at this point.
Of course, the 10-point system, especially as misused by Sky, allowed people to pretend there was a 'pass mark' which would mean a licence or not for anyone reaching that score, rather than licences going to the top 14 applications, judged more qualitatively than quantitively, which were then graded'"
So basically they make it totally up as they go along , allowing them to do whatever they want , but not suffer any quantifiable criticism
Clever Bstards , maybe if they put that much effort into actually helping clubs instead of covering their behinds we would be in a better state than we are

| Quote: SmokeyTA "maybe those two things are linked
maybe it only seems like bullsheite because you cant understand it.
it was fairly clear. when the RFL said [iThe licence application process was handled by the RFL's staff and took place in three stagesand finally each club underwent a detailed analysis of their structure and business plan, the results of which were compiled in individual reports submitted to the RFL board for consideration.
[/i
what part of that made you think it was a box ticking excercise with the highest scorers getting in?'"
I think it's that bit that people are suggesting they "make it up as they go along". Unless they talk about what they were analysing and what they were comparing the applications with, then it's basically a pick your poison kind of arrangement.
And I don't get the point of the simple points stage at all. Like my situation made clear earlier, you can easily score a B license and be no where near as good as some clubs in the C license category. It just seems a pointless stage if they're going to compare all of them in detail anyway.

| without a mcuh improved Tv deal i can't see teh SL getting any bigger any time soon.
I'd love to see teh game back on FTA, can;t belive there isn;t a station wanting to buy teh rights given the viewing the game gets on FTA. Why can't they split it like in Oz with a Firday and Satruday game on Sky and a 2 FTA Sunday games on a super Sunday afternoon?

'" or if you look at it from the other side. If they tell the clubs before hand everything they will be judged on, you are basically telling them which application to submit and you would end up with 20 identical applications.
And it has been constantly, and abundantly clear, that the final decision rests with the RFL Board. It always has, was and will be down to them. There has been no time in the history of the game where this hasnt been the case. the only thing that has changed is the clubs which can now put themselves forward for consideration

the categories are used to separate the clubs which are fairly disparate. If 5 clubs got A, 5 B, and 10 C then the As and Bs are through and the best 4 from the Cs would be picked by the RFL.
If 10 got As and 6 Bs and 4 Cs, then the 10 As would be through and the RFL would pick the best 4 that had scored a B. The Cs wouldnt even be considered
its just a broader look before the fine tooth comb, it was also a fairly minor part of the process that unfortunately some latched on to

but why doesn;t anyone want it? Didn't the CC games on Grandstand used to get 1million+ viewers? I know production costs to do live sport aren;t cheap but even so there isn;t a massive amount of quality sport on FTA TV these days so why wouldn;t a TV company want the second most viewed sport in the country?

| its not a case of does an itv company want the rights to SL its more a case of they can't afford the rights to SL.sky sports owns SL.a FTA channel will never be allowed near SL.can you imagine the potential lost advertizing revenue to BSKYB if SL games were being watched by more people nationwide on FTA-TV than are watching premier league football on BSKYB.
