Lenegan was the Chairman who opposed the RFL with the backing of the big clubs, that led to those clubs taking over Superleague and taking over negotiatons for this next TV deal and also taking most of the SKY money.

Lenegan and his fellow chairmen assumed the final say on letting "guest clubs" joing Superleague.

The RFL didn't step in and say "we are in charge" Wood and Rimmer just let them do that...............

Any idea then why it appears that they have hamstrung themselves putting everything into promotion?

Well it looks like straight back down, albeit London Broncos with a team that didn't look strong enough to compete, got close to avoiding the drop the other season.

I'd guess Messrs Beaumont and Koucash will appreciate having all this off season, and all next year, to plan for building a team that can stay up once promoted.

The reason I brought up the academy is because posters are claiming that Toulouse have to
Bring a tv deal (which a UK based team isn’t expected to do)
Bring supporters (which makes little difference to one game a season and is pretty irrelevant)
Develop french players (whilst uk based teams aren’t expected to do the same re academies)

Regarding you last point No RL “rules” could be changed to accommodate that. It’s nothing to do with rules and everything to do with employment law!!!!
We do t know what the players contract states. There could be a get out clause that states in the event of promotion the contract may cease. And why can’t Toulouse buy out contracts if that’s what they want to do - as I’ve said it’s nothing to do with rules and all to do with employment law and details on contracts.

Exactly- a tv deal exists- so why are Toulouse expected to bring one when Fev aren’t - they have to travel a lot more than once a year and yet are prepared to bankroll that cost without moaning on the same sky money. Sky don’t have to travel if they don’t wish- As Hetherington has already said smart clubs could use it as a way to make money so I really don’t understand this argument.
Having Fev or Toulouse visit makes little difference to any individual club -- the smart clubs are looking towards corporate to make up the numbers anyway. Crowds are down even at clubs winning.
Catalan developing players hmmm. Wakefield have been in SL from the start, in a “hotbed” of RL- where is their conveyor belt of players playing at the highest levels? Why expect this if “foreign” clubs but not domestic- has the standard gone up or down in the game overall.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t be striving for any or all of those things but this xenophobic demand on Toulouse or Catalans by fans of teams who aren’t bringing what they demand is laughable. It’s not based on truth. It wouldn’t occur with a UK based team so what is it?

The off season is a long period for changes but I don’t currently see Toulouse as being much weaker in terms of playing squad than Salford Wakefield or Huddersfield.

Leigh were hamstrung this year but I don’t think it will be quite as comfy at the bottom next year.

Except The economic argument isn’t stacking up- as I’ve already pointed out.
