Huddersfield Giants 2013 over achievers Huddersfield Giants 2014 under achievers ??????????:disney/00004.gif

Judging by the comments on here you would think that 50% of attendees would like the RFL as its main criteria for decision making on venues be determined by the Local pubs icon_eek.gif

now not wanting to get into a debate about alcohol ( as most beer in pubs is just p!ss. they would be better holding it in Cockermouth then at least you can drink Jennings) there has to be more to it than that.

For me the three main aims of the MM should be
1 to promote expansion to new fans or developing the game in an area
2 Publicity
3 a great day out particularly for genuine fans and families

In terms of no 1 i am not sure Scotland is the best place to go as i feel that we are a long way off a Scottish team although this may kick start some interest. Does wales need it i am not sure if that is as important as Celtic winning a few games.

in terms of two holding it anywhere in the Uk will probaly get publicity.

therefore no 3 becomes really important. Rl has enough events where people can go out and get tanked up internationals, CC and GF. But there are very few places where familiies and friends, fans from other teams can really meet up for a good time. that is why MM is the best forunm for that. genuine fans not idiots or glory hunters who turn up to watch a final.

I did not think Cardiff had much for kids. Edinburgh had some more but needs to work harder next year. I went out to the fans bit afyter the Giants game and it was all closing down. My little ones would enjoy the day out but could not wqatch 4 games so i did not bring them . If there was more for the kids at the venue i am sure it would improve the event no matter where it was held.

despite that i really enjoyed it and will be back next year. It is far better then ANY CC ( except 2006) or GF i have attended and i would always prioritise MM above any of them.

The toilets are terrible considering it's a stadium of that size and the money that must have been put in, also no proper concourses so the beer tents and food stands on the grass would have got washed out had it rained.

All you had to do was walk around the stadium, as it is built on a hill part of it has no concourse but the majority does, has no issues with the loos, a bit of a queue for the ladies but isn't there always in stadiums? Plenty of paper, soap and towels and cleaned often, way better than the majority of RL stadiums.

Quote: lister "Pubs and restaurants were spread out so you had the Grassmarket area near the Castle about 3 miles away from the stadium and the Haymarket area where we were staying around a mile away. As well as other pubs spread out in other directions.

This meant fans were split up instead of all joining in around the centre like Cardiff. Those distances also meant you were stuck at the stadium once you were there and had no option but pay well over the odds.'"

I wonder if this was actually one of Murrayfield's plus points from the RFL's POV - greater proportion of beer bought from the ground's own bars than in Cardiff where you could sneak in and out to nearby pubs.

Would the RFL have been on a percentage of the bar take? I'd be surprised if they were, I'd have thought the stadium management would have wanted to keep that for themselves.

Stadium management get a fee from the sale of the franchises (via tender) to the caterers, profit share should be between the event promoter and the caterer.

The only improvement I'd make would be to close the top tier as I was on row Z and was absolutely freezing. I think that would work better for atmosphere as well as it would mean people were'nt as spread out.

I liked the idea of not having a concourse and sitting out on the grass in the sun warming up between matches.

Quote: loyalsince1904 "1) Warn supporters that the ground was very cold unless you were sat in the sun. By the 3rd game I was shivering

2) Standardise ticket prices at £20/£10- you could go anywhere with any ticket

3) Maybe move it to the 2nd bank holiday in May? Weather may be a bit wamer

4) The cost of food + drink was horrific- £6 for burger + chips. £3.50 for 330ml of cider- cheaper vans are required

5) Start the sunday games at 11.30. Last train south was 8.45 from Haymarket/ 8pm if travelling back to Yorkshire/ Lancashire

6) The focus on the mascots was very OTT. They ran out before every game

I did think it was a very enjoyable day out on the whole.'"

Oh, please God, no.

I will never fathom how anyone's experience at a sporting, or any, for that matter, event can be enhanced by dressing up like a tw*t.

I'd guess I'm probably in the minority on here, though.

'For a bonus point perhaps you could tell me the last English SL coach to lead his side to victory (either Challenged Cup or Grand final)? ....or perhaps records don't go back that far! Clive Woody 18.4.06, not able to remember last year! pray for him...... 'I shall take your failure to answer my question as an admission that there are few if any English head coaches in SL.' Clive Woody 18.04.06, proving his inability to count and plumbing the depths of trolldom.:22386.gif

Well, I went for both days and a stopover on the saturday night. Unfortunately we had to leave earlier than we would have liked on the Sunday to catch our flight back to Luton, so we missed the last two games.

The overall impression of the event was very, very positive.
I like Murrayfield and thought it was a good 'fit' for the event. Positives were you could move around a lot and there seemed to be heaps of food, drink and activities. I didn't move around the entire stadium - we were seated in the East stand so stayed in that area. Toilets were aplenty and clean. Negatives would be that the food/drink was a little overpiced, but only a little. They weren't much more than you'd normally pay but I think a little more nevertheless.

Interesting to read there was lot more activities and food/drink options on the other side of the ground - a lesson there for me I think! I liked the William Hill banter booth and thought this added to the carnival atmosphere and gave another activity to people - more of this sort of thing please! (possibly just being pleased to see myself on the youtube clip but still think its a good thing)

I thought there could have been a greater choice of merchandise - I think there was only the one t-shirt for sale with any reference whatsoever to the MW concept, the rest being England RL stuff only. Maybe there was more available elsewhere throughout the stadium - can someone advise? I think the clubs/SL/the RFL missed a trick by not having more club merchandise for sale as an example. Also, perhaps more GB merchandise, maybe some other international merchandise - French, Scottish, Welsh, Irish etc etc? I know I would have bought some mercho when sober.....then promptly backed it up with another purchase when drunk!
stick with it guys, it'll work better over time.

bring on 2010, thats what I say!

How about staging it somewhere that actually has a club that any 'new' support it attracts can actually continue their interest with?

Seriously if any Edinburgh locals attended and liked the look of the sport, what more can they do except watch a few games on sky? It's more likely to get more people into union up there than league!!

Why not have the thing in London and try and help get quins crowds up, or the north east with gateshead in the future? They could've tied MM in with celtic had they based them in cardiff, but it was another opportunity missed.

If the rfl are to continue to justify asking fans to travel all over the country to watch their club play a league game, they should at least give any new support attracted by the event, the advantage of having a club nearby to continue their support once it's finished

Perhaps they could get involved in playing for or watching rlone of these clubsrl. There's more to rugby league than the 14 full time professional in SL.
