| Quote: SmokeyTA "Ive seen bailey absolutely crunch Adrian Morley, Ive seen him smash Maurie Fa’asavlu, Cause a big ruckus and then take the very next ball in. After whiteheads dropped JJB on his head easter Monday, we had a bit of pushing and shoving, things got a little tasty, Bailey ran the next ball right at Nick Scruton who woke up in Disneyland.
I’ve also seen ‘hard men’ like Paul Sculthorpe strike Bailey whilst he was playing the ball, and enemy of doormen throughout Hull Lee Radford throw punches until his arms got tired while Bailey was laid on the floor after a tackle. Bailey grinned, threw his weight around a little and carried on playing.
To say Bailey doesn’t get involved with forwards or tough men, or is excessive at cheap shots is nonsense. Regardless of going looking for the big men, Bailey makes sure the Big men are looking for him, and wears his target badge with pride.
Bailey is a big, strong, tough guy, brave and works hard, he puts himself to the front and takes what comes, gets up and does it all again. Another name for guys like that is Prop Forward.'"
But not as good as Nigel Wood though?

I think we know.
Here's a fascinating, balanced piece about him by a man who knows a thing or two about being an enforcer.
rlhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-league/22034937rl
The following supports what I think we're both driving at about why it gets under peoples skin when that uppity niggler tries to play the role we all so so affectionatley reserve for the likes of Morley, McDermott and Peacock.
"He was guilty before he got in front of that disciplinary panel because people have that perception of him.
"Being Leeds's bad boy is a by-product of what he does. Jamie Peacock plays the same role at the club but in a very different way. Because of the respect players have for JP, the reaction is that when he gets in trouble - as with his sin-binning against Bradford Bulls last week [for dissent] - you sense players feel it must just be JP getting frustrated.
"Bailey does what he does and they say it's his fault. There's no sympathy, no excuses. They don't blame anyone else."

| The upsetting thing is Bailey is actually a very good player. He did not seem to have an problem when he started but after a year or two in the first team, and his holiday at her majesty's pleasure, he has turned into the k**bhead be all love to hate.
In the end Leeds have let him become the player he is. If they had stamped down on him early in his career he may have changed his ways. You feel if he was pushed he could become the player he should be but you feel that no Leeds coach has had the stomach to do it.

| Bailey Isn't a bad player when he sticks to playing the game. But i don't recall peacock and morley etc smashing prone wingers after the hooter has sounded like bailey did to riley in the challenge cup final, the thing is i wasn't suprised when he did, loathsome character.

| Everybody has an example of something Bailey has done - on or off the field - which makes him a "loathsome individual", to use one term.
For every one, you can find plenty of other examples from around the sport of other players doing pretty much the same thing, yet they don't get half the vitriol from the keyboard warriors.
Why is that?

Im sure Corey Hughes, Robbie Mcormack and Robbie Kearns, will all tell you how Morley would never do anything like that.

To name but two.
Michael Platt can go on that list as well, forever looking to take cheap shots at half backs and wingers.
Hell, even the late Terry Newton didn't cop the same level of grief that Bailey does.

| Two consecutive games at Odsal, picked a fight with Rob Burrow in one and tried to headslam Scott Donald over the hoardings in the next.
No interest in taking on players his own size. Clearly a coward, judging by this thread's standards.

| "Every other team would want him"
Erm, no thanks, plenty of good youngsters coming through the ranks here for that! Not to say Bailey's a bad player per say (although he often doesn't seem to run his weight in attack), but without the niggling tactics he's just a workhorse style prop at the end of the day. He's not as terrible as some would make out, but he's not as great as some Leeds fans make out either... although I guess that's just the done thing now.

| Quote: dany1979 "Indeed.
Im probably in the minority in not being a Leeds supporter by any stretch of the imagination yet I can see how effective Ryan Bailey is to the Leeds pack (Catalan performance to one side here).
He is a very tough player who adds some much needed aggression to the Leeds side and I think he compliments players such as Kyle Leuluai who just seem to go about their business without the drama.
Although he is effective I would like to see him use his head a bit more at times because there were times in the Catalan game for instance when he just seemed to loose it completely much to the benefit of the opposition and not to his team mates.
Effective player but just needs to be that bit smarter.'"
Is that going to be his new tackling technique
