So Newton was specifically targeted for a test? Wonder how UKAD knew he'd been doping?'"
It was the tears, anyone knows that drugs make you all over-emotional. A bit like women and gin really.

| Despite the fact that HGH is a significant performance enhancing drug, I wonder if Terry Newton was in a situation whereby his previous injuries meant his career was over UNLESS he took it - which does NOT make it right, but does make it understandable. Following this train of thought, i.e. players may take drugs in order to be able to play, which is wrong - should players be allowed to play with pain killing injections? Surely they count as performance enhancing, after all they couldn't play without them?
Personally, I think players should rely on diet and exercise to shape their bodies, and if their body tells them not to play then for their own future they shouldn't. Too many old pro's are crippled by arthritis through forcing their bodies on when they needed rest and recuperation, and as a sports fan I don't think the sight of someone like the ex Liverpool hard man Tommy Smith being unable to walk properly is NOT worth my entertainment.

Pain killers don't give players an advantage over a rival, they enable a player to reach their usual level of performance without discomfort.
Besides they are not on the WADA forbidden list.

No, because he had the perfectly valid option of retirement. You know, like all the other players who have had to retire following career ending injuries.

Yeah but you can see his point surely, although tbh I think he was trying to extend his career for the £££, again understandable with Wife n Kids but again still unacceptable and wrong.

A life as a retired player with the respect of fans has now been swapped for cold days on a building site with a few weekends moonlighting as a bouncer (until someone lays him out AGAIN).....yeah, great decision.

| Is he the first sportsman to start his career with a years ban for something that didnt happen on a pitch and then finish his career with a two year ban for something that didnt happen on a pitch?

That's the most likely reason IMO.
HGH has a whole number of effects. I'd imagine tons of celebrities and film stars are on it due to it's anti ageing affects. ''fountain of youth''.
If newton had used IGF-1 he'd never have been caught, that is undetectable in blood and urine samples.
