First year of 8 team playoffs in 2009 Leeds finished 1st and won the GF....then in following years finished well off and still won GF’s from 5th twice

Last two structure changes Leeds have won the LLS and GF first year up and then snuck in and won the GF in other years. Next year, new structure........

If you fancy leeds to win the GF next year I strongly suggest lumping on asap, you'll get circa 6/1. It's more likely there will be another name on the trophy than leeds winning it next year.

Getting back on topic, amazing from wigan and wane, not so much tonight but to finish the season with 10 straight, to concede just 4 points in 2 playoff games, to concede something like 8 tries in 9 games, phenomenal.

Losing Wane, Tomkins , bateman and Sutton is a hell of a hit though. Really fancy Saints to be there or there abouts next year.


As for Warrington, Sickener, sympathies for their fans. To lose 4 finals in 3 years is brutal.

Not a chance we will be there or there abouts next season. On redvee, Naiqama has been heralded as a saviour. For those of us that watch the NRL, he’s a poor mans Ade Gardner. Between cas and Wigan for me. Warrington will choke again and Leeds, on paper or bottom half of the league again

You were seconds from old Trafford last year despite being garbage! Put Walmsley back in, even if naiqama is steady away it's still an improvement on last year's saints side. You probably won't smash sides week in week out but wigan didn't expecially this year nor leeds last year .

Saints will be there or there abouts next year but “there abouts” doesn’t win Grand Finals.

This time 12 months ago who’d have Warrington as reaching both finals and Catalans as CC winners when both where in the bottom 4 with the latter playing away in the MPG.

Leeds went from 9th to GF winners once before recently with most of the same squad. only a fool would dismiss them from being in contention again next year.

11 wins = Wigan & Leeds

9 losses = Warrington & Saints

6 League Leaders' Shields = Wigan, Warrington, Leeds, Saints, Castleford, Huddersfield (plus Bradford if you go back 3 more years)

What a shame the best team over the weekly rounds is overlooked for a the winners of a mini knock-out competition.

They aren’t overlooked though if they follow it up in the playoffs. Leeds have won the LLS 3 times in 2004, 2009 and 2015....we won the GF every time.

Nothing stopping those other LLS winners doing the same EXCEPT their OWN failures.

Saints had the advantage of home territory and playing against the team that was least consistent of the 4 over the season...that they couldn’t take advantage of this advantage isn’t a shame it just shows that they aren’t a champion team.

The regular season now is just about who has the least injuries, the playoffs tell you whose really best.

All in all, last night was another poor final. I haven't seen a decent GF since 2011. It's probably symptomatic of how poor and in decline the league is in general, but if we are insistent that this is 'the showpiece' of rugby league in this hemisphere and oppose first past the post, then we need to do something about raising the quality of the finals.
