So your saying nobody has the business pedigree that Sinfield has ???
And highest profile RL stars of his generation ??? Really ??? The fact he bottled the NRL all of his career to win a few tin pot SL titles means that he is not even half the star that Sam Burgess is for example and not half as known.
As I say it's a 'jobs for the boys' culture at the RFL as per.

| It's not just the masters degree it's the fact that Sinfield knows the sport inside out. I don't think any senior RFL members have played alongside Sinfield (if they've played the sport at all) so I fail to see a job for the boys approach here.

What are you talking about?
1. His job isn't business development
2. He doesn't have any personal relationship with anyone at the RFL so it's hardly jobs for the boys.
3. Do you not think it's positive that one of the most level headed and decorated players to play the game will be at the RFL considering the often lamented apparent disconnect between nameless suits at the RFL and people who have a real understanding of the game?
Or did you just want to have a go?

You keep bringing in this word business. This isn't the apprentice. Business pedigree and business development don't have appear to have a huge amount of relevance for sinfield's role. He's going to be helping players find career's after retirement and helping England plan for the the 2021 world cup.
He was runner up in the SPOTY so he is fairly high profile. I don't remember any concrete offers to go the NRL but if there were, alot of factors would have come into play such as relocating his family half way round the world and can't be simplified as simply bottling it. Considering Sinfield took up the challenge of going to a different sport so late in his career I don't think ''bottling it'' is really in his nature.
Considering the RFL have never really appointed Rugby League people before you can't really say ''jobs for the boys as per''. If anything it's a lack of jobs for the boys culture that has weakened them. Not enough real rugby league nous.
P.S. When Cas finally win a 'tin pot' trophy let me know. But I'll probably be dead by then. It'll be a match made in heaven. A tin pot trophy for a p*ss ant town.

| I'm glad to have been proven wrong here. I said that we'd never see Sinfield back in our sport again as I thought his move to that other code had future backround coach then head coach in that sport after retiring from playing written all over it as a poach of a talented and intelligent rugby league man.
But he's back in our sport and hopefully he can be put to good use. He's only just out of the game so not old hat and should hopefully give the RFL a shake up.

| Hmmm, personally I'm not sure this is necessarily a good appointment, can he meet what is being asked of him and successfully so , of course, that does massively depend on what that is, being able to quantify his contribution will be more telling in the future but nothing ventured I guess with a familiar name.
That said, sports business degree or no, he's a newbie with no experience in real world business/strategic planning/contract development and so on. He might know rugby league from a players POV inside out, he might know most of the players but does not by any means automatically qualify him to do X role to progress the game.
Massive learning curve, only time will tell as whether this is a good appointment or not.
good luck to him
