Correct-a-mondo.
I'd also add that pre-planning and promotion are key. I have no doubt that the "concept" of the exiles is an OK one, but RL fans have become apathetic over the years and getting them off their 'rses needs a bit of forward thinking.
If the RFL were to use the clubs and their ST renewal campaigns for 2013 to promote these games, you would look to get a 25% take up on the offer. Additional incentives could be that anyone who buys 1 ticket with their ST goes in the draw for a box at a RLWC semifinal for them and 5 mates......buy 2 exiles games and go in the pot for a box for 6 at the RLWC Final........even consider another 10,000 notes worth of RLWC tickets.......
Try this one:
England v Exiles, Huddersfield, Some Saturday in June 2013..... 7pm KO.
TNT Magazine/Walkabout bars offer:
Return train travel from London to Huddersfield, 1 nights accom based on twin/double sharing match ticket and pass to the Museum to be used on Sunday morning....say 110 notes?
Travelodge/Hotels contacted NOW, train company agree decent fare...getting cheaper with every 100 booked.......Pay "sellers" 20%.........you think about it...the manager of the walkabout sells 45 tickets....he earns a Grand. TNT sell 450 tickets......you do the maths.
Alas, I suspect what actually happens is they push the game on SLY TV and expect everyone to roll up....and whe it doesn't happen, you get fiver tickets.

| Yes the Exiles games should be selling out stadiums immediately and if they don't they should cancel the concept.
Just like State of Origi- oh wait...

| I'd suggest the RFL should have kept it to a single match for another couple of years before ' diluting ' the potential support with 2 games

But last seasons single match was a relative success, both on and off pitch, was it not?

Where did I say cancel the concept?
As for SoO....
Year 1 - 1 game in Brisbane 33,210 attended....the average attendance in the league that year was 9,881.
Year 2 - 1 game in Brisbane 25,613 attended....the average attendance in the league that year was 8,647
Year 3 - 3 games, 2 Bris, I sydney 22,334 was the series average attendance.....8,476 was the regular seasons average.
so roughly put....about 25k average per game over the first 3 years......3 times the normal league crowd at that time.
The Exiles has a place....but it needs to be marketed properly....blokes in hoods on SLYTV may look good to a RFL executive.....but in reality, they attract bugger all fans....
as for SoO now........the crims treat it like Christmas Day, the FA cup final and New Years eve all rolled into one.....they have made an EVENT of it.....and they did that through marketing it.

| Game1 was so poor that it will be a tough sell to get people to watch this live mid-week, when it is live on SKY. In defence of the organisers the weather didn't help the first fixture be a good game.

and yet the Broncos when they came in avg 40k, lies, damn lies and statistics!
re your cheap seats statement I have to disagree. When the London Monarchs first played in World League or whatever it was called I got free tickets to their first game at Wembley. Probably wouldn;t have gone if they hadn't been free. I loved it, was a brilliant event and I never missed a game despite the fact I had to travel from up North to get to them. Without that free ticket I wouldn't have become a fan enough to attend. Cheap tickets are a good idea if you are selling to a new or unresponsive audience to get them interested.
I just find it a great shame that RL fans are so cynical and apathetic that rep games of most types are poorlyupported, and then we have the chek to whinge about how low a profile our game has in England. Get off your backsides, fill out stadiums and watch the media sit up and take notice.

Read his post properly , you will see where you are wrong
Quote: JB Down Under "Marketing.marketing an Exiles game against the national side in a Rugby League heartland is not the same as trying to promote the game of RL outside it's traditional heartland.
FWIW, If they are going to keep this concept for 2013, it should be 15 quid extra on top of a ST for 1 game, 25 notes for both.......pay the "selling club" 20% commission........then put the remaining tickets on general release at 20 for one and 30 for 2......advertise these tickets to the ANZACS and package them up with train compaies and travel lodges......start promoting them in February.........all ST holders that take up the offer can be contacted with specific offers relating to the games they are going to......cheap accom for thos from say Hull attending a game in St Helens.....petrol offers, food offers, booze offers, coach offers, replica kit offers.....all designed to enhance the experience of attending an "event"
......in case you missed it, the last bit above is MARKETING.......last minute tickets for a fiver isn't!
It's not about just putting up goal posts and providing a ball and a whistle......which with the exception of a couple of Clubs, the entire game of RL in the UK believes it is '"
I've highlighted the point he makes

| Quote: gutterfax "Marketing:"the development of a product to meet a requirement, the outbound announcement of the availablity of that product and various actions to ensure repeat business, whilst maximising ROI for the stakeholders"
There are hundreds of "definitions" of marketing out there, but that's the basic skeleton of all of them....
There's also another belief that is generally accepted around the world......once you offer something at "value" rates, it becomes nearly impossible to charge a premium for it ever again.
The RFL booked Wembley for a double header in 2011 and undoubtedly, got more fans in attendance for the 2 games than they would have if they had been played seperately.......but if you bought a ticket for a tenner, how keen are you going to be to fork out 30 notes for a pool play RLWC game between England and Australia next year?
Consumers have a choice....most RL fans that are AVID RL fans, have SKY TV.......to get these people off their "rses is a more complicated matter than offering tickets for a fiver. It's not like these RL Fans are new to the product..marketing an Exiles game against the national side in a Rugby League heartland is not the same as trying to promote the game of RL outside it's traditional heartland.

Well said and I completely agree with everything you have said
I have said for a long time that cheap deals and tickets for our showpiece events do not work and only cheapen the event, and the sport as a whole. I also dont think that that they lead to substantially greater crowds, certainly not in the long run and lead to a loss of revenue. Most people that I know if they are mildly interested in an event would easily spend up to £20 to go without even thinking about it, having it at a fiver isnt going to make a blind bit of difference to whether they will go or not. Having deals at the Challenge Cup Final and Grand Final is also similarly pointless and only serves to cheapen the events and will not make any difference to whether a RL fan will go or not. I also dont think that some of these deals help to encourage sponsors to get on board, do blue chip sponsors really want to get on board with sports version of Lidl?
