Vision zero/broken windows. You do nothing for the small stuff and folk/others go on to bigger/worse things because they think they can go about doing whatever they like knowing the authorities won't do beggar all.
You only need to look at how motorists kill and maim with virtual impunity and get off scot-free for those actions as an example of how things can slide when you ignore matters.

The players are ultimately employees of the clubs so in the first instance it is up to the clubs to address any breaches of discipline. This isn't the NFL where the players are effectively centrally contracted.'"
Are the players not employees of the club's in the NRL. Are the players not employees of the club's in soccer also.
The difference is that the NRL and the individual football organisations would not sit back and do absolutely nothing if an incident like this or tomkins bros happened.
There would be some reaction even though it's the clubs who would ultimately punish the players.

| Quote: nottinghamtiger "Interesting to hear one of the staff say to Sam Tomkins “take your mate out”. Amongst the condemnation, there have been a few comments along the lines of “they only filmed them because they are rugby players”. As the bar staff didn’t know they were brothers, it seems unlikely they knew who they were at all.
Think he’s got to go. He physically intimidated the member of staff at the door by putting his face into her’s and then strikes out at the member of staff who is filming (as she is entitled to).
I hope the RFL are able to bring charges too.'"
Of course she knew who they were, in the video she addresses Sam Tomkins as Sam and then goes on to say "Go on then because its not my career what will be ruined is it?" Why would she say that if she didn`t know they were rugby players? And then the pub owners contacted Wigan Warriors lol, so yes they did.

| To be fair to the brothers this incident pales into insignificance compared to the former England RU captain who stalked Princess Diana.

So you oppose trial by social media (or you should do) but want a club to release everything it does including personal disciplinary of its staff via social media so that the likes of you can make up tripe without any facts. I bet your workplace is hilarious when it comes to outing staff on facebook/instagram/ter et al with respect to disciplinary procedures
This 100%
I work in HR and what Wigan has done in publishing the punishments could get them into serious trouble. All employees have the right to privacy in all disciplinary cases, just because they're sport men, doesn't make them exempt from basic employment law. Hull FC didn't bow down to social media pressure and rightly so, it's nobody's business what Kelly's punishment was.
Just as an aside, interesting that Wigan have handed down a punishment whilst they're still investigating, Sam & Joel could have a field day with that in a tribunal!

I cant imagine Wigan are really worried. They will just claim its in the public interest

Yes, I think something like this happened with the Quentin Pongia affair who had the potential infectious Hepatitis B, the Wigan Staff and players were inoculated against the disease this went on for 3 months whilst Pongia took the field with opposition players non the wiser and unprotected.
It was believed there was a whistleblower at the club and it got into the public domain, Wigan was accused of a cover up but Uncle Jo stated that the RFL were aware in part but not in fine detail because of privacy rights to the individual (Pongia) at the expense of other (non Wigan) super league players.
The player shortly stood down from playing later and thats one of the reasons we have the blood bin today.

So when it involves RFL matters and they pass down a ruling ala hardaker does the employee's right to privacy become redundant as it's not their immediate employers but a govering body? Surely they would still have rights there? Genuine question on the implications of this

I'm presuming it is made public as it's a ruling by a governing body as you suggest. We hold random drugs tests at my work and we would never divulge any results or punishments, but that of course is the employee's rights under employment law. I'm presuming there aren't those rights with the governing body in the same way as the courts list criminal rulings in the local papers.

| Looks like Rovers are set to sign Joel Tomkins, he’ll fit in well around East Hull.

| It could easily be a condition of employment that certain elements of their employment will be in the public domain.
Of course they could opt to play rugby in their back garden, but I doubt they would earn as much. But at least their privacy will be protected

My advice to them would be if you don't wish your punishments to be out in the open, don't commit your crimes there.

Is that what they called it back in the day.
Btw, wasn't all that consensual ?
