The virus is an existential threat to the sport. The ARL have just admitted that without significant economic support from the government the consequences will be catastrophic. 

There's no way rugby league in this country will be able to survive in one piece. Countless clubs will likely be liquidated- dreadful times.

I wonder if folau will be able to keep his mouth shut about whos being punished for their sins. Maybe in a few hundred years therell be twee little childrens stories about it all similar to the biblical floods and the arc.

Today’s statement by RFL

COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS – RUGBY LEAGUE | MARCH 15

Public health considerations – for everyone - and particularly the most vulnerable in all our communities - are everyone’s priority.

The Rugby Football League is following and has followed at all times the Government’s advice and will continue to do so. We are in constant contact with the relevant Government Departments who are informed by the national scientific and medical experts. This information has been communicated directly to all clubs in the professional and community game over the previous few weeks.

The Government guidance was there was no medical rationale to call off games this weekend, and this was followed by Rugby League and many other sports.

The situation is fast-moving and evolving. By the end of the weekend the RFL will have sent further detailed papers to all clubs in the Betfred Super League, Championship and League 1 on the in-depth plans developed by the governing body over a number of weeks, in discussion with both clubs and broadcast partners.

Meetings will be held with the professional leagues at the start of this week to continue contingency planning and discussions around all competitions and events together.

On the other side of the coin. Could SL and Sky agree to play the games behind closed doors with a subsidy for the missing gate money. Isolate the players for a few weeks, or quarantine them and their families Soviet Union style for the good of the game.

That way RL gets maximum exposure, Sky get something to show, we get a better deal next season.
