This was undoubtedly the best tournament ever in the history of either code of rugby. The combination of high skill levels, brilliant attacking team movements, and brilliant individual tries, all in the face of powerful defences, with mostly close scorelines that left the results in doubt until the very end of the games, was as much as any reasonable person could expect.

Of course it does and particularly so during the last two decades.

What a fabulous game it was yesterday, an absolute belter and one which will live long in my memory.
Congratulations to all four sides for such a great tournament.

Completely disagree - in what way do think this happens and how would you change things?

There is either an international tournament or a test series every single year there is an Anzacs test every year and a world cup every 4/5 years.

You want a return to full tours - how will that be achieved? a return to winter rugby to the dross that claimed to be 'elite' rugby in the 70s and 80s? Perhaps a mid season break for three months so we can have a tour either here or down under?

The game has moved on and quite rightly is focussing on what has always been the strength of the game i.e. the club game.

If you don't want to look foolish....sorry, any more foolish than you normally do, I'd step away from cross-code comparisons, especially with insane claims like the one above.
606,000 Aussies tuned in to watch the game on TV........that's less than the number of Aussies that tuned in to the RWC2011 Final and that didn't even feature Australia.

I don't believe he mentioned tv figures. Only that it would pee all over any RU semis and final ever.

Only a complete turnip brain would evaluate the quality of a tournament with the number of people who watched it on TV.

According to guttersnipe logic that would make "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and "American Idol" the best quality programmes ever to be shown on television anywhere in the world.

....Alas, whilst I sympathise with your opinion, the facts regarding attendance and viewers are very relevant to the it being the best tournament ever. Until we can bank 100 million for hosting rights alone, we really should steer clear of "my dads bigger than yours" comparisons, because invariably, he isn't!

OK.....I'll bite and god knows I should really know better by now.

144,722 people showed up to watch 7 games of International RL featuring teams from Samoa, New Zealand, England and Australia.
164,223 have watched England's last 2 games at Twickenham , which will have delivered in excess of £10,000,000 in ticketing revenue alone to the RFU.

Your claim about the "best tournament ever" holds no water because regardless of the undoubted quality of the games on offer, the RLIF could find a cure for EBOLA and still not make a fraction of the revenue that the other code does.

25,000 at the Final that you are now heralding....yet you wanted 40k or you'd be disappointed a few days back.

Quote: William Eve "It wasn't an excellent advert for the game at all. It was more specifically an excellent advert for international RL. Unfortunately, that will be ignored by the game and the RL community as they quickly retreat back to focusing upon their respective domestic competitions and parochial one club interests.

The reason international RL is largely ignored by the rest of the outside world is because the game of RL treats its internationals as an off-season irrelevance or afterthought which plays a second fiddle role to domestic competitions like Super League, the NRL and Origin. Therefore, the fault lies with the game itself.

Blaming Rugby Union, the BBC, the national media, etc, for international RL's lack of exposure is looney tunes Moonie logic. They are not responsible for how RL governs itself, how it structures its international competitions and the level of importance it applies to them which, in the grand scheme of things, amounts to approximately naff all.

You must have another mass wedding to attend to shortly?'"

Why didn't you quote his whole post? You know, the part that then highlighted he meant it was the best in terms of on-field action?

Has the faux Frenchman agitated you so much that you've become desperate to the extent that you have to edit his posts in such a way to try get a shot in?
