Garry Schofield was a very skilful player, whether he was good or not was entirely dependent on whether his head was up his that day or not. Nobody could question his skill, he made his quality very easy to question because his contribution often fell too far.
Besides I haven’t argued Brough isn’t a good player because he hasn’t played in the important games, I’m saying he hasn’t played in the big games because he hasn’t been good enough to do so. |

Don't know you're so fussed anyway, I was agreeing with you: the AG award is a terrible, terrible measure of quality. It must be, the current bestest player in world has never won it. |

Whether you like the scoring system or not a player would still have had to "put a decent season together"to win the award.
Or are you suggesting that Tomkins/Chase/Dobson/Richards/Dureau didnt have decent seasons when they won the award?
Im not saying that Brough was the best player of 2008,but he certainly "put a decent season together".If you cant or wont acknowledge that,so be it.  |

Im saying the Albert Goldthorpe medal is a terrible judge of quality. It favours certain types of player and excludes others for a ridiculous reason. I dont think it is a coincidence that Dureau, Dobson, Brough and Chase have won it. They all take up a role similar teams which rely/relied heavily on them.
It seems that at least 80% of the time, to win the Albert Goldthorpe medal you need to be the best halfback in a lower/middle team which over achieves compared to pre-season expectation.
