Schofield orchestrated everything for GB in that 33-10 win. His finest 80 minutes IMO. Edwards was just an onlooker.

I know that for most of Fev's coaches of that era the thought of 'how do we stop Edwards' never crossed their mind as they knew Deryck Fox would easily nullify him.'"
Is this the same Deryck Fox who played in the fev team that got pasted twice by Wigan in 1987 (when Edwards was just a lad) and got dropped by GB after two tests, for being absolute horse, in the process suffering the humiliation of being replaced by a very unfit and hugely out of practice Andy Gregory in the third test?
Deryck Fox is like Peter Fox and Richie Myler of the current era; only getting top level gigs because of illustious relatives from long ago.

Schofield was great, yes, I agree.
However, out of the five tries scored, he created one and scored one. Edwards also created a try and tackled out of his skin. So I think calling him an onlooker is a bit wrong. Watch the game and see for yourself.

And Schofield only scored because ET and Lindner slipped.

| HAHAHAHAHA What a suprise, Gary Schofield is winning the debate, Edwards is the most decorated player in British RL history and Fat Gary won nothing, what a ridiculous debate this is.

Yep. It shows how stupid and blinkered some Wigan fans (you for example) are. By your logic Ryan Bailey is the best prop of the last 10 years, no dispute.
Rugby League is a team game, when you have team mates like Hanley, Gregory, Platt, Betts, Clarke, Bell, Gill, Offiah, Lydon, etc it makes collecting trophies that bit easier.

| Quote: Erik the not red "Enough to see that he didn't play in the line a lot, not that I would expect that of a half back anyway, didn't rack up huge tackle counts (again not necessary for a half back), was not famed as a big hitter and did not have a great technique. I've seen him beaten one on one. How any of this comes remotely near your laughable definition of "brilliant defensive player" I don't know, he was adequate at best. He was also playing alongside some very good defensive players whilst Schofield had the pea hearted Leeds pack for support. You come up with some evidence to back up your moronic claim about Edwards defensive genius.'"
So the answer to the question is you didn't see him play a lot, which would explain your complete ignorance of how good a player Edwards was. If you want a good laugh, re-read you post again, half backs don't need to tackle Priceless.

| Apart from Hanley Schofield is probably the best British player of his generation. In terms of playing ability Edwards doesn't come close to Schofield.

How exactaly was Edwards a better player than Schofield? Schofield was an excellent all round RL player with ability to create something from nothing who lacked the proffesionalism of Edwards but ability wise he was miles ahead of Edwards.

Indeed...and on the basis of Championship rings Ian Kirke is at least 4 times better than anything Wigan currently have to offer.
