Why would relegation kill them off? Sure, their ground is worse than most championship clubs, but there's a reasonable expectation they'd still get 1500-2000 people every week, as they did in the second tier in the 1990s. That is plenty enough to run a part-time team on a £300K salary cap.

The need office space / retail space. They will lose stadium naming and advertising money. They will make very little on corporate hospitality etc. (This creates pressure on putting up entrance costs)There will be additional costs re training / playing U20 + U 18 games + costs for events through the season. Likely to be pressure on marketing costs. PLUS gates are likely to fall so revenues down. Given the winding up orders while at BV this additional financial pressure hammers any licence bid.'"
Them ever so little financial matters are being overlooked
Full steam ahead

| Quote: Code13 "Wakefield are reaping what they sowed some years ago imo.
They over spent, broke the cap and did all they could to not finish bottom, whereas Hudds made sure they laid the foundations for building the club to long term success.
Maybe if Wakefield had kept their promise to the RFL when they got into SL they wouldnt be in this situation now.
The icing on the cake was when they rejected even the concept of ground share.'"
As a Wakefield fan, unfortunately i cant disagree with most of what you put, but to use Huddersfield as an example is laughable.
This is Huddersfield that have a wealthy backer, a recent 'merger', a ground built on the back of the towns football club and who happened to manage to stay in the league whilst finishing bottom. A luxury that would not have been offered to other clubs.
Nothing against Hudds at all and i dont blame them for taking advantage of all of the above, (i am obviously jealous of there position right now) but using them as a shinning light is a bit much.
Like i say, the rest of what you put, i cant disagree with and if i was an outsider looking in id say we were behind Cas (stadium permitting) and maybe even Halifax for the franchise decision, unless plan B comes up trumps.

This is Huddersfield that have a wealthy backer, a recent 'merger', [ten years ago, hardly recent] a ground built on the back of the towns football club [totally untrue - it is a tri-partite deal with Giants as part owners of the stadium not lucky tenants] and who happened to manage to stay in the league whilst finishing bottom. A luxury that would not have been offered to other clubs. [If you understood the rules you would know any club finishing bottom those years would not have been demoted because the N1 GF winners had substandard facilities. Indeed one of the reasons the RFL were so against promoting teams with cr*p stadiums was wakey's slowness to upgrade their stadium after promotion]Nothing against Hudds at all and i dont blame them for taking advantage of all of the above, (i am obviously jealous of there position right now) but using them as a shinning light is a bit much.
[Sorry if the facts about the Giants spoil your argument]

* Ten years ago. Tell that to the Sheffield fans. Still a nice lump of cash received
* Tri- partite. Obviously without the football club, the ground would still have been built!
* Wakefield would have been relegated i assure you
As i tried to point out, i dont blame Huddersfield for taking advantage of any of that. They are a fine example of what can be achieved with the right backing, but that was not the original point made.

They have already sold BV though I believe and spent a lot of the money they got from it. They have already made it clear that this year will definately be their last at BV and so if they lose their spot in SL then nobody seems certain where they would play. Groundshare with Barnsley has been mentioned but would be a huge drain on their finances which will already be massively reduced if they drop down a league. That is the worry as to why relegation might 'kill them off'.

Without hijacking this thread into the same old debate, it will suffice to say you dont have a clue what you are talking about in any of these regards.
1. the merger, no one wanted it, it was everyones last choice. Its more complex than that and has been told ad-nauseum.
2. Without the rugby club the football club wouldnt have got a new stadium either. It goes deeper than that, but without the ruby club the football club wouldnt exist any more.
3. Pure speculation. No one was fit to come up, so no one would have been relegated is the facts as they stand. If Wakey were to have been relegated in that situation, its because they shouldnt have been promoted in the first place.
Everything that is happening now is born out of the choices the Wakey board made a decade ago, and continue to make.
Quite why they outright rejected even to do a feasibility study around a ground share is beyond me.
