Quote: JonM "Seriously - I would struggle to name a current Wales RU player beyond Gavin Henson - and that's probably only because of his Mrs. I can't name any current Scotland or France RU international players. Quick straw poll of my office in Cambridge, filled with 20 and 30something blokes who mostly play some kind of sport- no-one else can either. I doubt any of them could name an RL player too, though.'"

Shane Williams(wales)..? come on most excitng player i have ever seen and was international player of the year think it was 2008.

Chris Paterson(scotland) hadnt missed a kick since 2007 in 6 nations until last weekend and has 100 caps

Yanick Jauzion - french one of best in world , if not the best

PS - Gavin Henson is not a current wales international

I find this odd as any half decent Welsh Union fan would know most the England/GB team.!

Maybe its just that where all sports mad down here.!

No offence but..
If Shane Williams is the most exciting player you've ever seen I suggest you watch less union and more of the other code. Very, very good player but someone like Inglis had a highlights reel at age 20 better than Williams.

Quote: garethtaylor15 "Im not having a pop. Just pointing out to some peoples perspective of Union on here. Yes your correct if you say england and ireland play an awful brand of rugby. But dont tarnish other teams with the same brush. Union teams such as Wales, France and OZ play a very attacking, attractive brand of rugby.
So to answer the questin are you convinced union want to score tries. Then in regards to Wales yes. And when in the right frame of mind can be one of the most devastating teams in the world ala the last 5 mins last saturday and the 2 recent grand slams.

I like both codes of rugby and they are both have there pros and cons. 2 very enjoyable sports.

Alfie can be a hit with the Cru, he is all passion a 100%. And i dont think he would of considered going if he didnt think he could make an impact.
I say play him in the Centre, and he could do some damage.'"

having an enema is more fun than watching union.

seriously watch some NRL sometime, youll never bother with union again.

too slow, too many mistakes, too many penalties.

After watching the NRL it's hard watching Super League again to be honest..

If I said one very big kid that would be an understatement. Think he's about 22/23 now, aussie centre, Rugby League golden boot winner this year. Please read the AUP – particularly the bit about linking to stolen broadcast footage. tb

i do know who he is.
we not all that daft in south wales.
He is a great player Inglis, but shane just has the x factor and gets your pulse racing whenever he touches the ball. Also hes playing against top international teams 10 times a year and doing the biz aagainst them to.

not like some people not knowing who Gareth Thomas is.

Check shane williams out on famous video site namely shane williams tribute.

It's pretty poor.
He's scored some decent tries over his career, Inglis has scored more by age 22.
Williams would be a great League player, it's such a pity he stands getting cold on the wing in union.
Unions got to buck it's ideas up quickly, especially in England. I've got a cracking idea, drop it to 13 players a side, uncompetitive scrums, get rid of rucks and have 6 tackles before turning over posession

I always think that if it wasn't for historical bias, everyone would be playing Rugby league now and equally if the roles were reversed and RL had Union's rules, RL would have died out years ago.

Quote: headhunter "Doubt Alfie would do too much to boost attendances in the North. If the club was still in the South, it could have provided the boost that the club would have needed, but the people of Wrexham seem to be willing enough to turn up anyway, and unlike in the South the majority of proper Union fans in the North seem fairly anti-league so I doubt would be swayed.'"

i disagree, switching would have generated interest in the south but then anyone likely to go to the rugby would have seem him play live many, many times whilst the impact in the north will be much increased just because they don't have four provinces and the national side on their door step. imagine all those kids used to watching the national side on tv can suddenly get to see the captain play on their doorstep? they'll be beating the doors down. add in henson and we will be going great guns.

Quote: garethtaylor15 "Really.?

100 caps for wales.
was top try scorer for wales before shane took over.
captained lions in 2005.
Captain of wales during 2005 grand slam.
Won european cup with toulose in 2005.
Only player in europe to win euro cup and grand slam in same season.. ever.
Great leader been captain of most clubs/ teams he has played for.

Outstanding athelte with great strenght and good top end speed.

Granted his bestest years might have past BUT he is in great atheltic shape, seems to have bulked up a lot. And has been in very good form for the blues this season.

He shall easily be the most well known and most experienced player in the squad.

I fully expect ALF to make a big impact for the crusaders both on the pitch, coaching and commercially.!

Come on Alfie.!!'"

Gareth Thomas' career has completely passed me by - but then again, I am not part of Wrexham's target market when they are making this signing.

The only current RU players names I can think of at the moment (apart from the RL converts):

Shane Williams - Wilkinson - O'Driscoll - Cipriani - Steve Borthwick , and I wouldnt be able to pick Williams and Borthwick out of a line up.

He hasnt scored more.?
shane has scored over 150 tries.?
And some of his tries are truely amazing and some are in some huge games.!
England play crap rugby.
New rules have just come in, in super 14, no jacklin ie defender cant attempt to get ball in tackle thuis should speed the game up.!

and suit wales down to the ground.!
