| Quote: bowes "Where would that be? It's pretty easy to expand a competition that until 25 years ago banned non-Sydney clubs into 2 states where RL was already well established and a single club from the whole of NZ (you Aussie trolls even said SL should have a new NZ club so the NRL didn't have to have both), only Melbourne are an expansion club and they're successful due to News Ltd funding alone. SL has 3 clubs outside the north of England, though I suspect that will be back to 2 soon, though eventually back up to 3 with Toulouse.
Of course I want it but until you I value quality and am not impatient. You as good as said yourself you'd rather risk ruining an expansion club and damaging the league than being patient and waiting 5 years (or 3 or 10?) for the time to be right just because you thought it was too long to wait. It really isn't long in the scheme of things and unlike you I'd rather expand right. I suspect you have a hidden agenda of wanting to get rid of expansion clubs by forcing them up early so they fold'"
not that im a fan of it, look what AFL is doing in australia.
they are putting clubs in places nobody cares about the sport and backing it with lots of money.
they are prepared to back their sport 100%
RL is a far better product and many of you lot are just scared to try anywhere expansionary unless the club is as good as a heartland club

It's only fairly recently (late 80's) that Queensland and Mid/Northern NSW got top tier rugby teams and then later on NZ.
Melbourne followed and it's fair to say they've all made a pretty good fist of it.'"
RL has been played in queensland prior to the NRL, NZ too.
heck brisbane had its own competition for near on 90 years.
lucky im here to help you lot

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| Quote: Odemwingie "Like for super league we have criteria that the clubs aim towards to be awarded a spot. Less strict criteria could be used to get the clubs in the championship up to standard and more clubs could then apply for a franchise. With a stronger second tier of rugby league a lot more could be done in terms of stadia, attendances, spreading the game.... expansion could happen more naturally instead of being forced. All the top sports have great second divisons in this country.
The more clubs we get up to standard to apply for a franchise, the more competition there will be to get on in years to come, more competition for a franchise will force clubs to improve if there was a real chance they could be dropped next time around. Do you honestly think Cas and Wakey have felt any pressure at all untill now? The last franchise application was pointless.
Finally, people talk about how devastating it would be to send certain clubs down, they would go bankrupt etc. but with a stronger second tier there would be no danger if a club was not quite cutting it to send them down for a few years and let them build.
Personally I wouldmake the championship smaller and make sure only the best clubs are playing in it. IMO if you are not going to put in a franchise application, you shouldn't be in the championship. There are only 5 or 6 teams who will apply outside of super league, this is not enough IMO.'"
Too small already , you are never going to have more than 3/4 clubs in the Championship in a position to move up to SL , the focus should be on having as many as possible [ hopefully all one day ] self sufficient , ie they earn enough money to pay all their expenses of operating
How you do that is the problem

The thing is the RFL aren't all that rich so it would be imprudent. If the RFL had tens of millions spare each year I'd be all for it (though in places like Cardiff not Bridgend or Wrexham), but unfortunately they don't so we have to use quality standards

err they didn't, hence why it took 80 years before the game moved beyond two states of the country at the top level and still has 14 out of 16 teams in the same areas.

who says its imprudent?
it shows that other sports are very keen to back their expansion
with RL its mostly a case of our sport is so good so well put no effort in, we expect them to do it on their own.
thats why it doesnt expand
