However, the owner of Christchurch's Racecourse Hotel said that while the Cronulla Sharks and Johns were welcome back at the hotel their alleged victim - known only as Clare - was not.
Hotel owner John Butterfield said that the Sharks squad who stayed there in 2002 were "a great bunch of guys".
He branded their accuser, then a 19-year-old university student who worked at the hotel part time, a liar.
"She told a whole bunch of lies," said Mr Butterfield, who is the executive director of his Canterbury Hospitality Group.
"It's buggered Matthew Johns' whole life."
Mr Butterfield said the woman had crowed to staff about a sexual liaison with two footballers in the men's toilets at the Holy Grail sports bar in the city centre on the Thursday night, the night before the group sex incident.

Wake up! They do it all the time. And rightly so.
For example if a school teacher were found to be taking part in porn films - a legal activity - a scholl would be within its rights to as the teacher to leave.
If Johns and his team mate had been having sex with a teenage boy in front of 12 onlookers he would have been sacked with no greater uproar.(other than that front the macho heterosexual 'lobby'). |

What a hillbillly like you thinks is not very relevant.
The desperation on here is yours. Resorting to reporting what Hotel owners say 
His hotel, his organisation. He freely decides who he does business with. Fine. Likewise channel 9 have that choice. 
Johns does not dispute the central facts. That he he and a mate banged a teenager with 12 or so people stood around watching. He knows that has devastated his wife and will embarrass his children and others. He also knows that is why organisations like Channel 9 choose not to employ him.
The fact that you cannot see it and get increasingly desperate amuses many of us. Keep digging....or.......
