| It was a straight red, I can't believe childs who was almost on top of the incident didn't even put it on report, we got 3 players banned in one match against Catalans for punching.
Personally I'd rather see childs banned permenantly for impersonating a referee.

| Laughable some of the posts on this thread. You would have thought he killed someone. I agree he should have been sent off, or at least been sin-binned but taking about an E grade ban is a bit much. Think Chris Hill did him a big favour by grabbing him straight away. Might miss the semi final that's about it but I expect a 1game ban followed by an early guilty plea.

| Very little in it IMO. I understand the argument for consistency but as a sport we shouldn't be sending off players and banning them for such trivial misdemeanours.

Trivial misdemeanor, Briers deliberately and with malice punched another player without any provocation whatsoever, not only that but the recipient of Briers common assault wasn't even facing him.
Briers is a cowardly, snidy nonce and I hope he gets what is coming to him. In this situation it matters not that he didn't knock out his victim or do him any harm, that's irrelevant. What if he had? What IF he had caught Ablett or whomever on the side of the temple, we all know what kind of damage that and strikes to the head can do hence we outlaw it in all sports other than boxing/full contact martial arts etc..
But yeah, attempting to hurt someone with the potential to do lasting, permanent damage to someone is a trivial misdemeanor...
Whilst Briers produces fantastic play he also is prone to crappy outbursts like this, similar to Chase in fact. It is these cowardly acts that need to be highlighted and punished appropriately because it sends out completely the wrong message to say it is acceptable & shouldn't be punished which so far is the case. Given that even the commentators were saying when should a Leeds player get in a punch (as have fans on here) as the ref isn't going to punish it..you clearly don't get it do you.

| If it had been a big forward such as Bailey or Morley, you feel the decision would have been different.
Also, if Ablett had fallen to the floor like a footballer I reckon the decision would have been different.
There's a problem with inconsistency and also with refs encouraging "diving" by players in instances like this and also at the play the ball.

| Watched the replay on Super league Show & it's gets worse for Child. He was three feet away with a totally unobstructed view & bottled it. As clear a red as you could be forced to make a decision on.
Briers didn't like being targeted defensively by Ablett & reacted in a violent & aggressive manner. Has to be a D-E charge under the guidelines.
Anything less renders the disciplinary panel unfit for purpose.

What I get is that week after week I hear fans complaining that much of the regular season lacks intensity to a point where many claim to be on the point of deserting a sport some of them have watched for decades. Unsurprising where the players are now terrified of losing their cool, even for a moment.
Briers' punch was a cheap shot but a life-threatening act? Get real.
