Proctor and Gamble used to say that a consumer was a consumer until they purchased your product for the 7th time...thereafter they were a customer and you'd spend more keeping them than you did getting them in the first place.
It is something we did here with the local Netball franchise a few years back who were struggling to get 1,000 to games.....we gave schools etc a cut of the gate for tickets they sold and then when we started filling the 4k capacity we reduced the share the schools got but delivered sponsored equipment instead.....it really is something that Rugby League Clubs could do better. I let my Warriors membership slide this year as my son is getting to the age where he needs to be ferried to multiple activities over the weekends and the NZ Warriors made no attempt to get me back (maybe they know me too well )
This World Cup isn't "bad" per say, but the venue choices and then no effort to fill them in Australia is disappointing at best.....especially in Townsville and Canberra who obviously bid for games but didn't seem to leverage their local NRL sides.

| Australians just haven't bought into the WC as an event in the same way the WC in England became. By comparison 77 k turned up at short notice to watch the Socceroos qualify for the World Cup last night in Sydney. The kangaroos in the WC final would struggle to get half that.
Basically the NRL by its inactivity has helped perpetuate the idea that international RL is a second tier sport, at best a pale version of NRL. You can't even argue its about how much better Australia are than anyone else given that the last time the WC was played here the Kiwis won it. Its a crying shame more people haven't seen games like NZ vs Tonga. That was a superb advert for the code, full stop.

| Shocking decision to put the PNG game on at 5am Sunday. No one other than RL fans will know it's been played

Not the choice of the BBC though is it? 4pm in Oz on a Sunday afternoon is probably the best viewing time in terms of Australian TV. I'm sure they don't appreciate it when games here are on at 6 or 8pm, so 4 or 6am the following morning in Australia.

| As well as trying to make it peak match attendance time too - no point in making it an 8pm match there if no one is going to buy a ticket or watch it on the box in Oz/NZ

| No one would watch it in Aus/nz if it was on at 7pm? It's more important to get a couple of thousand extra tickets on the door than it is to raise awareness in the UK and get millions more watching it over here. This game was always going to have England in it, so I'm sure it could have been on at a better time. Not like there short of rugby on the TV over in Aus

Millions watching it here? Try a couple of thousand. Anyone here who wants to see it will record it and watch it later - there wouldn't be many more watching it live if it were on at 10am than those that watch it live at 5am plus those that record to view later.
Australian TV will have bought the rights to it to distribute it and show the games as they see fit to suit their demographic and achieve peak viewing figures for themselves, not to get a few more Brits watching it live.

Absolutely correct. People complaining about the UK kick off times is ridiculous, the tournament is in Australia and New Zealand!
Do we give a thought to kick off times downunder when hosting tournaments? No, it’s not a consideration.

| It's not the timing that's the issue. I know Sky aren't convering it but there's barely a 5 minute run through of results on SSN. BBC have the odd reminder here and there after the likes of Eastenders where everyone begins to switch off.
