Quote: gutterfax "Simple facts are that with regard to FANS
1,964,708 watched Super Rugby in 2010 over 94 games...just short of 21,000 per game.
3,491,890 watched NRL in 2010 over 201 games, just short of 17,500 per game.
511,000 watched Super Rugby in Australia in 2010 over 26 home games......just short of 19,700 a game.

So......there you have it......for all the posturing regarding which is the bigger code, Union...the sick puppy of Australian sports get's more "mean" fans through the gates than the NRL. 3.5 million people watch a season of NRL and 500k watch a season of Super Rugby in Australia and your interpretation of these facts is that Union is more healthy

That is spin of the highest order

After spending 12 months getting branded a Union Troll or some other inane name by the children on The NRL board, all I did was use the same tactics as the schoolyard bullies who used to post here, got banned, somehow got back on and continue as before.
Fact remains that statistics can be used to suit any argument....and in the case above, I simply responded to Old Dears statement that NRL attracts more fans than S14 rugby in Australia. It does....., but when you divide by the number of games played over the season...it doesn't. I am fully aware that S14 franchises represent massive catchment areas and NRL teams represent Sydney Suburbs/Towns...I simply answered the statement as it was made. Factually...with no need for spin, or a link to the SMH.COM.AU or a history lesson. Simple fact is that Union, regardless of how boring it is or if it's played by public schoolboys, got more average fans, in Australia, per game in 2010 than the NRL.
I have no beef with you Dunbar.....believe it or not, I am a RL fan and a very passionate one at that, but the trolls who polute these boards used to confine themselves to the NRL board.....now that they have driven any decent posters away from there, they are now trying to infect the VT. They pride themselve on being able to state what RL's next TV deal will be worth...they jump on anyone who has a different opinion and they resort to the PM messaging route to try and goad people into spats.....I suggest you stay well away lest you get tarred with the same brush as them.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.:icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg

Quote: Damo-Leeds "How convenient it is that South African and New Zealander teams don’t count in your Pro-League argument. But then you go to the weakest of super 14 nations in Australia and say that there down.

How convenient - very convenient indeed.

Where’s the evidence to suggest that rugby league is doing better than rugby union or is it just the word of a misinformed RLFANS poster that we’re suppose to rely on as FACT?'"

in 12 months time when the nrl gets its massive TV deal and starts signing union players will you still be around to admit your errors here?

What I cannot understand is how in a rugby league mad country can a nothing sport like RU attract crowds for their internationals that are double that of the crowds the supposed premier sport in the country can?

Circumstances are right here and now. Not in 12 months time. I’m not wrong right now, but if I used the same comments when League does start signing union players then yes I’d be wrong saying this then.

Damo do you still think that union is better than RL.

Facts point towards that Rugby Union is acknowledged as the better code League world wide apart from in certain locations..

Personally I prefer league and will always watch Rhinos over tykes. However I have enjoyed the union internationals this last month and even other league fans have.

Rugby League needs to sort its act out and it’s only the blind (I mean Australian) who can’t see that. On the field the quality of rugby has declined entertainment wise. I can’t remember getting excited once during the Quad nations and that includes New Zealand’s win over Australia.

I didn’t even bother getting up for the state of origin this year because its quality has declined and that’s suppose to be the pinnacle of rugby league entertainment.

You are not comparing like for like though.

Surely the Super 14 teams are state teams, which are playing in an international competition, and if you are comparing them with anyone then they should be compared to New South Wales and Queensland RL. What are their averages again?

You should compare the NRL to the domestic Australian Rugby Union competition. I do appreciate that this is a little difficult though as the national domestic competition collapsed after one season due to a lack interest and support. Indeed if I recall correctly it was a big embarrasment for the Australian Rugby Union, who had made big boasts about it rivaling the NRL icon_lol.gif , and they could not sustain its losses which were A$5 million in just one season. I think the paltry attendances which were often less than 2,000 and a grand final attendance of barely 4,000, tells a lot about the state of, and indeed support for, Rugby Union in Australia.

I will be here....and you can spend ages trying to justify the signing of players from an inferior sport to play in your all singing all dancing (but no bu99er watching) NRL.
I don't care how many (MORE) Kiwis the NRL sign.......it's indicative of how shallow the AUSTRALIAN talent pool is in the NRL when not only is your Toyota Cup crammed with Young Kiwi talent, but you will feel the need to try an attract NZ Union players icon_lol.gif
Massive TV deal? Sanzar got 35% + the rest of the world....so about 500 mil........for 100 games.......let's see exactly how much more per game the NRL gets before you get ahead of yourself......1 Billion would be about right for twice as many games........same amount of cash per game for both codes......good stuff icon_biggrin.gif
You remind me of a dog chasing its tail pal......you think you know what you are doing but in reality it's a futile excercise.

I used to get wound up by you and your mates....now I just enjoy showing you up. I have shown that there is an audience for RL in Wellington.......I got paid to do it icon_lol.gif but you idiots still don't understand the concept of a sports fan d040.gif

OK right now the nrls contract is worth slightly more than the improved S15 contract?
