The reason that we Leeds fans feel the need to defend Bailey isn't because we believe him to be a faultless angel, but because opposition fans, for whatever reason, seem hell bent on painting him as the devil himself. People punching a defenceless Bailey are hailed as heroes and he's the thug? He's a coward somehow, but after both the Fa'asavlu and Radford incidents (if memory serves) he took the next carry. Yes he's niggly, but he's not the niggliest player in SL, yes he's aggressive but he's certainly not the most aggressive in SL, so where does all the hate come from? Perception, misconception and oft peddled myth, and very very little to do with fact.

Glad to have you posting, you're a real breath of fresh air on the VT. We really lack threads slagging players off, particularly Ryan Bailey, who gets away with far too much unchallenged IMO.

Actually I think they do, I don't for one second think Bailey is the worst at this, Westwood, Tomkins (when in league) Cockayne and quite a few others are guilty of being ar*es on the pitch.



It's not hate, its an opinion, in my opinion he needs to get rid of this part from his game. He's a big lad, whether he feels he has something to prove, or is just a little too OTT at times I dunno. I just believe he needs to concentrate on his game and he'll be better for it. As for Radford I think he was an as*h*le for hitting him on the ground, you want a dustup then wait for the lad to get up, nothing worse then getting decked when you cant defend yourself.

Playing for England and acting like he can will not help us. Neither did I think Joel Tomkins, often giving away silly penalties would help us win either.

Which year? How many times was he actually charged? And no, 6 times in one particular year (if that is even the case - and he was charged in every case) does not fit the definition of the word "constant" especially considering Bailey has played first team since 2003.

If I were unkind I'd say it was a perfect example of people making things up about Bailey and then back tracking when the facts don't suit their agenda.

But I'll accept that when you said he "has past for acting like this" you didn't actually mean "he has past for acting like this" so we can move on.

I think you will find the whole point is people are not upset about Westwood. Certainly not to the extent that they are about Bailey.

Hence the questions about how proportionate the disgust many feel about Bailey is towards his actions. IMO, and in the opinion of many other rational individuals, the response is wholly disproportionate and completely OTT.

So we wonder why this particular prop provokes such a reaction in fans compared to other props.

It's not working fella, nobody is going for the racism, Bailey's along with cockayne's choice of how they conduct themselves winds people up, one is black the other is white, in neither instance does it make any difference.

The one incident that sums Bailey up to me is at the end of the 2010 CC Final. Wire had won the game, Chris Riley took the ball into what was going to be the last tackle and Bailey slams him in the back with his elbow while Riley is on the ground. The guy is a jerk and I wouldn't want him in my team (club or national).

The difference between the likes of Bailey and Morley is that Morley can back it up by being a good player. Bailey is decent at best and that's why he's disliked, you know when the going gets tough he's going to be MIA.
