| Personally I see nothing wrong with the ball being turned over to the opposition after a try.
In fact it fits nicely with the rest of the game. The set of 6 has effectively ended with the try. Same as at the end of a knock on, kick, 6th tackle etc.
The set of 6 is completed and the ball is handed over. For kids it's a much better idea as it balances out teams having some turns with the ball and it should be about enjoyment.
But for me it would fit at the pro level too. The try itself is a reward for the work done, why do we double up the benefits? although personally I would just go with a kick off rather than a tap. But I can see the point of a tap for the kids.
The only issue would be for a team chasing the game, currently if your 7 points down with 5 to go, you could still win the game. But if you don't get the ball back after a try, then comebacks will start to fade away.

I largely agree, especially at kids and amateur level at all ages.
I just think at pro level you should be able to defend a set of 6. If you don't then you don't get the ball.

The quote above tells me that you haven't the slightest clue about this years World Cup.

It seems to me that there has been an epidemic of inner ear infections affecting their balance.
If I'm wrong then enlighten me, please.

| At pro level the kick off is fine. Whilst the scoring team gets the ball back, they're going to get it deep in their own territory, which gives the conceding team a chance to keep them there and start their next set in a decent position.

Whereas in the noble sport of Rugby League you never get players feigning being held down, or having the ball reefed in the tackle to gain the advantage of a penalty and another set of six....

Yep, there's just as much diving (equivalent) in RL as in football. RL players do, however, possess a set of knackers unlike most footballers.
I'll still never forget the sight of John Terry being stretchered off for a dislocated elbow. Quite how that affected his ability to walk I'll never know.

Good points. Thank you for making your point rather than dropping some whiny drive-by comment.
Do you equate the above actions with what has been seen in the World Cup (and every Liverpool game last season)?

The conceding team do start with a PTB on halfway in junior mod and mini rules.

Unfortunately only until the age of 12 IIRC.
Just around the time we start losing kids from the game.

Which is also the age at which league tables are started (in yorkshire anyway). I know of one club which has a number of good players thinking of quiting playing because they dont get game time and the coaches play the same players evey week. Oddly enough these players are at the younger end of the age group where a few months can be a big physical difference at that age.
I wonder which is more relevant? ?

Yep. A lad I coach was told not to come back by 1 club because he was too small. Fortunately we've managed to keep him in the sport, but his mate who he went with (and so left that club with) is now playing Union.
I think RL is much better at primary school ages than it used to be (with still some work to do!) but it's still pretty bloody rubbish at over that age. Both in terms of skill development and keeping people interested/involved.

Quite, 'professionalism' is one thing, but, the modern day footballer's 'ability' to act as if they had been shot from the grassy knoll when tapped on the shin goes against the grain. Where have all the players gone that would never show they were hurt even if they were and considered it a sign of weakness?
I used to split my time between the two sports, but, not any more, mainly because of these antics

No worries Charlie, I've quite enjoyed this World Cup but tend to avoid Liverpool's games to be honest. Unfortunately, I do think that slowly but surely, we as a sport are picking up some undesirable traits from Association Football.
In addition to those previously stated players mouthing off and harassing officials really gets my goat. Lee Briers often tried to ref matches and may be I'm biased, but, it was done in the main with a bit of cheek, pushing the limits with humour rather than snarling obscenities

Out of interest, how many Liverpool games did you see last season?
