| Quote: beetwaste "The reason I wouldn't have Murphy is, despite his obvious achievements, he's now perceived as a bit of a dinosaur. The old flat-cap days. You know, the 'well in my day, we wouldn't have put up with this and that etc etc'.
Offiah isn't. And whilst there's nothing wrong with celebrating history, Offiah is part of the generation of players who helped drag RL out of it's past, and into a professional, credible sport that can compete in the 21st century, for all the problems off the field.
What do I know. I still reckon it should have been Clarv Sullivan.
Offiah could run fast , end of , he needed a team of RL players to make him look good and score trys
Alec Murphy is widely recognised in this country and Australia as probably the finest/cleverest player ever to play the game , between him and Offiah it is no contest

| List isn't long enough. Out of those, I would go for Risman.

| Complete joke that Clive Sullivan isn't on the shortlist.
I'll vote for the 'group representation' thing. Hopefully their 'artistic interpretation' could be a broze kangaroo, arms folded with it's foot on a flattened Lion? That would be quite apt.

| obvious player is missing from list, only player to appear in and win 8 finals in a row and also in every round of those 8 campaigns...
Shaun Edwards.........
the RFL missed a big opportunity by not making him an offer to coach England.........

He was also a winner in the 1985 final and lost the 84 and 99 finals.
9 wins in finals a Wembley, 11 appearances, he also captained GB there. How on earth is he not on the list?

| I understand that the RFL have issued yet another statement, saying that it is pure coincidence that the selection panel for the Wembley Statue are also all on the Committee of the same Working Mens Club in Wigan?

He's a union guy now bud. No place for him on a statue of British rugby league. Put one up in your hometown by all means but let's not desecrate our great sport by celebrating a guy who never won a Lance Todd trophy, despite playing in more winning sides than anybody else, during his teams' greatest period of dominance.
Besides this statue is going to be in a public place so think of the children.
