| The same size stadium in a different place wouldn't have sold out, there are other reasons to pick Elland road

| A slightly bigger stadium would have sold out but if it hadn't have been England in the final i don't think Elland Road would have sold out.
Even so OT is too big and the grounds with capacities bigger than Elland Road and smaller than OT probably wouldn't have let the game take place, no argument from me.

| Not a fan of Elland Road really but well done the RFL for selling it out, will be a great atmosphere I'm sure.
Only sold out today and if it was NZ vs Aus in the final I doubt that would of been in the case. It's in the "heartlands" too so it's not too far for everyone.
On a biased point of view, Bramall Lane would be a great venue for perhaps a final or group game. Smack bang in the City Centre, 32,000 and just an hour from West Yorkshire and an hour and a half from the likes of Wigan & St Helens.

| I think Elland Road is the best compromise all round given that the RFL had to factor in the potential for an Aus v NZ Final. No complaints from me, just glad to hear it's sold out!

People seem to forget that the wembley game was a double header, so there will have been wales and nz fans there, not massive amounts but enough... You also need to take into account that a lot of people in the london area took up ticket offers in the last few weeks before the event, and that before july the rfl had marketed this to everyone with cheap tickets available. People aren't going to pay for a final unless England are there. And tbh, where else could we go? I think weve sold a great amount but with 2 days left, like someone else has stated, how many extra would we have actually shifted? probably a few thousand at the best. The only sad thing is elland road has area's unavailable due to maintenance, otherwise it would have been perfect imo

| Whilst a future final venue for the tournament is a debate for another day its encouraging to see the growth of this tournament evolve. Attendances have being decent and I have even noticed the French are getting some good crowds too (which bodes well for future four nations tournaments). We could maybe have a tournament here that can go on to become of the biggest in the game.
If England win on Saturday then it really could kick start international RL right in time for the 2013 world cup.

| Hell fire, the RFL cannot win in some peoples eyes.
The England V Wales game did not even sell out at Leigh. Why would they also risk booking Eastlands for a possible Aus V NZ final.
Also, Elland Rd is in the 'Middle' of the M62 corridor if you know what I mean, which is fairer to Humberside fans than getting to Manchester. Just chill out and enjoy hopefully a great game, in front of a full house.

Apparently the word 'heartlands' is banned at Red Hall

| Quote: nick hkr "When there were over 40k at Wembley was Elland Road not selling the sport short? Why weren't GF and CC tickets also vouchers for say half price final tickets and have the event at a larger ground?
Yes it will look and sound good having a full Elland Road but it's just not amitious enough. Don't get me wrong Wembley was too ambitious and I don't expect to fill Old Trafford for an England game just yet but a 45-50k stadium may well have been full for an England vs Aus final. I do suppose though Elland Rd wouldn't have been full had it been Aus vs NZ so they were covering their backs with that one?!'"
For... goodness... sake...

| The best bit about these types of threads in the massive assumption by some posters, in that they just assume that Eastlands, Old Trafford, etc, etc is firstly available and secondly, would want to host an RL game! Just because we think they should, doesn't mean they want to or have to! Also, nobody thinks about cost and the cost of hiring OT and only filling it a third full, versus the cost of hiring Elland Road and filling it 3/4 full or full!

it's an anachronistic term anyway. If you played RL at school, then for your local junior club, then went into the 18's, then got signed by your local SL club, then got picked for your country, and your name is Tony Club, then Kent and London are your one and only heartland.
