Well no doubt there are other reasons, and the malaise of the local pro clubs doesn't help, but the current RFL policy seems to be to concentrate on 'elite' players rather than to get mass participation. There is very little development going on at U8-U11 level and the mini-mod schools tournaments have stopped. The development officers are not making many friends with the amateur clubs. In fact, the RFL recently announced this new strategy...

Not one local amateur club was consulted and I can tell you they're all dead against it, as all of the resources are going to go into an elite few rather than being used to make the game healthier overall. There's a feeling that they're just going to cream off the top talent into this programme and just not bother with the rest.

| The clubs would never ' merge ' , so the only way would be if one club managed to achieve all that was needed on it's own , it is unlikely

| I suppose we could have a unified Cumbrian team playing in SL with the current teams there, they could play games on Sundays as double-headers, have 'group' season tickets where you could watch Barrow/Whitehave/Workington on Sunday when they aren't playing at home, duel registrations etc, it would take a little thinking about, but it's a way of keeping Worky, Haven and Barrow in the League and have representation in SL

| The key is Barrow Raiders and Barrow FC getting together to build a stadium. If Barrow had a stadium fit for super league then I'm sure in a few years they could be worthy of a franchise.
A merger is not the way to go. I would rather see one club get in to super league and see the rest use that as a kick up the backside that it can be done.

A stadium is irrelevant if you haven't got the fans to put in it
As for others , how many clubs do you think they can fit in SL ?

I would rather see less teams in the league. We only have 5 or 6 clubs who are worthy of the word 'super'.
I judge teams outside of super league next to the teams in super league. A cumbrian team in a good stadium could get better crowds than Quins or Crusaders did this year. With a decent youth set up they could produce bags of players.

So could Leigh , and Fax , and Fev ,
They already produce bags of players , and now SL clubs snap them up in return for a bag of sweets , see Derwents post earlier , that isn't being done for Haven,Barrow and Workingtons benefit

| Not big enough to be sustainable. It's pretty much recognised that you need to be up around the 10k crowd mark these days to have an income in SL that will allow you to spend full cap and break even.

I don't see the benefits they would bring to the league when they are so close to other super league clubs. I would rather see a cumbrian team for a wider spread league. They havn't had a super league team for years and I am sure we are losing out on plenty of potential.
My true opinion is that I would like to see a smaller league of around 10 teams... however this is about a cumbrian team. All I stated was that with a new stadium I think they could be just as good for the league as any other team.
Your usual argumentative nature and desire for Leigh to get noticed has got in the way...
