Strangely enough, No. icon_lol.gif Yes, i know its hard to believe now, what with all and sundry (especially Eddie) banging on about how the world would actually explode because of it.
Only richie mathers has a problem with it, but like dennis betts said at the time, he really does need to man up.

Wasn't that because the game was played in conditions below the freezing point of the pitch too?

Loads of Cas & Salford players got cut up that weekend on Salford's pitch too and that's real grass (in fact some of those cuts looked a lot worse than Mathers grazes!). iPitch is the way forward in sports, it's a truer and faster surface.

We're coming to make some noise!:

I think there has been quite a grumble from players about the pitch but many have kept their opinions to themselves due to the Mathers execution by Mr Betts!

Some HKR players passed comment that they had more grazes than normal and would choose to play on grass over that surface. I also understand even the Widnes physio or a support member of staff suffered an injury on the pitch! So I think there is a cause for investigation.

I would suggest one year is not long enough to get a full idea of whether the pitch is safe for RL to be played on. The high number of injuries over recent years on all surface types tells me that it is not the surface that needs serious questions asking but the level in which the players are pushing themselves.

A finely tuned engine will break much quicker than the trusty old motor and it is the same with players, in years gone by players have not been as physically close to breaking point that they currently are which is IMO the reason we are seeing players getting injuries they wouldn't have had five or six years ago.

www.therfl.co.uk/news/article/25 ... ague-pitch - I'd suggest many other pitches in the game need addressing before the Widnes pitch though.

Yes, but that didn't suit the agenda of those who were determined to condemn it so was conveniently ignored by many.

There was always going to be questions asked early on and 1 year on, the fact that there has been so little said about the pitch, means that it has worked.
The benefits of the plastic pitch will be noticed more in the off-season when hopefully it will be used for other activities.

Various players have commented on it on Twitter over the season, summed up pretty much by Ryan Atkins yesterday: "I honestly didn't mind the pitch but wouldn't want to play on it every week!"

In Tony, we trust.:

It's ugly, scruffy dirty and industrial and I can't see the point, what's wrong with grass?
Reduces the spectacle of sport, which is actually why we go and spend our hard earned. Not for me.

It's a vastly improved technology over the astro-turf pitches I played on 20 years ago and still bear the scars from now. The manufacturers have proven the pitches are not a direct cause of serious injury (Serious injuries will still occur and possibly in differnet scenarios to proper grass) and I think this has been shown over the season.

Give it 20 years and professional 'pitch based' sports will all be on at least partially artificial surfaces.

I'd say McShane got injured due to the pitch yesterday.

It also goes some way towards spoiling the game as players do not play the same way as they do on grass eg wingers do not dive for the corners.

From what I hear there are regularly been players suffering from infected "burns" for weeks after playing on teh pitch. Dig it up and condemn it to history.

world champs when it wasn't a pre season friendly:

the pitch will ultimately be judged on what type of return on investment it produces, it just makes no financial sense to have the biggest area of a modern stadium only contributing to the up keep for a couple of hours for about 20 weekends

I've got a mate whose played on it and he hated it. Apparently its too 'fast' and the bounce of the ball isn't true.

For the first time I'm interested how the proposed i pitch will be at Barnet when the Saracens RU team move there, insomuch as how it copes with competitive scrums, ie can forwards dig in for a push ?
