| I for one am sorry to see him go. Luke gales drop goal, halls last minute try or wide to West wouldn’t be the same with Bill Arthur commentating

| Seconded. Gets a lot of stick, but won’t be the same without hearing his voice.

| Yeah fair play to guy, I know especially later on in his career he annoyed fans with his commentary but he was always clearly passionate and has given 30 years service to the sport. Happy retirement.
One point though just now at his goodbye post match, even then Phil Clarke is insufferable and tries his philosopher style talk saying goodbye and sounds fake whereas Carney just spoke genuine to him.

When Eddie was allowed to commentate without having to accommodate the ramblings of Clarke, McDermott, O'Connor & Cummings he was up there with the greatest of British sports commentators.

Agreed, forget the ‘who replaces argument him’, the key is it should be a 2 nan commentary team. That’s when Eddie and Steve were at their best. When you have 5/6 voices during a game it becomes a mess regardless of the quality of commentator.

| Yep, After moaning about him every week I come to a sudden realization that his commentary will be missed especially with the fact that his role will probably be taken by Terry and Barrie - Be careful what you wish for and all that ey.

| Also today, did anyone notice that he seemed to revert back to actually commentating on the game?

| Great commentator. Got a lot of stick over the years he didn’t deserve. Loves the games and I don’t think watching super league will be the same with carney and Oconnor.

| Poor, biased commentator who never bothered to learn the rules of the game.
I'd say he won't be missed, but as RL is an afterthought for SKY these days (fantastic job on securing that new TV contract btw), they won't spend any money on finding a competent replacement.

| was always controversial like the try that he said was a knock on by coote and the refs allowing it to be shown as a good take from hardacker, as commentator in the end he started to get things wrong
I doubt we will miss him do we miss eddie waring

Don’t be daft. He wasn’t a poor commentator nor was he biased other than possibly toward Lee Briers.
He was a top commentator that more often than not added to the drama and excitement of games rather than detracted from it.
The last few years have been frustrating but as others have said that’s because there’s too many people in there all chipping in every 5 mins. The 2 man formula works. They should stick to it.
Fortunately Neville Smith is going too. I’m sure he contributed in the past but recently you have to lay the blame at his door for the poor production from Sky. I think we all probably agree it’s become too much like a bunch of mates at the pub and that has to be coming from the producer. That atmosphere has been evident for years even to the point of them doing a shout out for 1 of the Sky cameramen during play in the Grand Final a couple of years ago. I’ve never seen anything like that in any other sport on TV and certainly not for that sports showpiece occasion. Again today with Eddie’s departure it was unprofessional and too much like a mates retirement party. The game should have been the priority but it wasn’t. Eddie was. And as much as I like Eddie his retirement should have been dealt with solely post-match. Not the constant references to him throughout the game.
So I’m sad that Eddie is leaving because I think he’s a still good commentator in the right environment but I’m delighted that Neville Smith is going. Hopefully a new person at the helm will give it a much needed boost of professionalism.

If he had ANY class he would have gone at the end of a season, not bigging himself up at Easter. The guy is a complete pr1ck in my opinion, he will not be missed.. His bias towards Warrington was obvious.
