I can’t think of any other saints player who has divided opinion so much. My take is that he always gave 100% despite his limited stature. He always comes across, like Sinfield, very well and I will be sad to see him go. My daughters especially so as he always had plenty of time for a chat and a photo with them

Something that has always narked me is Saints class him as one of there academy products when he played I think about 20 odd times in our first team he might end up coming back but I think he should retire he’s had a great career

I think Sts will be surprised at how big a loss will be.
Great all rounder who has pulled them up every time the big players have moved on or retired.

If he does retire I think he will have a job in the media for sky or BBC

John Wilkin would be a 100% improvement on Barrie McDermott, Terence O'Connor and Phillip Clarke. He could quote at least Yeats if not Shakespeare during the commentary.

I'll always remember Wilkin for spitting the dummy over Sky allowing cameras into the HT dressing rooms at Old Trafford, when outgoing coach Daniel Anderson gave Saints the rounds of the kitchen.

As a player he's always seemed a bit of a show-pony who resorts to a bit of cheap thuggery when things don't go his way.

I have no problem with him as a pundit, however.

I admire his longevity at Saints, but that's about it.

Never really rated him to be honest, maybe Saints fans have a different view.

I've never been able to reconcile his articulate and savvy media appearances, with the grubby on-field antics; but fair play to him for his longevity and success in the game.

Retiring, or off to Toronto?

Not big enough for international RL. Had gone into a state of torpor under fatty, but rejuvenated under Holbrook. My favourite memory is Senior decking him at Headingley.

Fine as a pundit but one of the worst losers of recent memory. It became standard for every Saints GF loss to be followed by a Wilkin whine and complaint.
