After a bit of "discussion" about Gareth Hock (admittedly started by me ) on the Leigh board, it got me thinking about some of the players I've seen at Salford over the past few years that had all the talent in the world, but also a self-destruct button that stopped them achieving their full potential. Despite the numerous barmpots Koukash has brought into the club, I'm still way short of a 1st XIIl made up of entirely Salford players. Anyone like to nominate any of their ex-players to fill the gaps in my "all the talent but sandwich short of a picnic XIII"?

Zak Hardaker and Ryan Bailey

Hardaker is young and likely to be in the England squad for years to come. Was thinking more along the lines of players that shone briefly but haven't quite fulfilled their potential/have fallen from grace.

My interpretation was that his heart wasn't fully in it and looked a bit 'lazy' but think he just didn't like to get stuck in full on.
Could have been in a similar vein to lomu, all the physical attributes just not much gusto, shame really.
Scored 71 tries in 101 SL games probably the biggest stand off ever in world rugby when playing for bradford against Wests in the WCC.

As for looney tunes, Paul Woods, sadly lost to us due to leukemia was a very talented SO/FB but was an absolute nut-job. like for like I reckon he would easily have had more games sitting in the stands than Hock.
Even Jim Mills made a point of stating that when Wales played Australia in the 70s the then Oz SO Tommy Raudonikis (no shrinking violet himself) was shouting at the ref to get Woods off him.

Not sure I ever rated McGoldrick and Tansey highly enough to say they were a wasted talent. Same with Pryce..... massive lump..... but probably far more effective as part of that monster Bulls back line of 10 or so years ago than he ever was playing elsewhere. T Carney - Difficult to say on this one. Suppose he's similar to Rangi in that he won the top award in his country so hit the heights at an early age but only has 1 test cap to show for it. I guess competing for a HB spot with the likes of JT & Lockyer might have something to do with that as well!

Gotta have Scott Moore at Hooker - can anyone else match allegedly drink driving, assaulting a police officer and running away in his underpants?

Watched Tim fell 2 markers with the same 1 punch at Hilton Park.
Tim also used to work the door at Ruebens in Leigh & wasn't allowed to play RL on sunny days as he was likely to fight his own shadow.
