| As the title says, I think the refs are talking too much during the games. They coach teams through the game (but inconsistently). And it's not only not needed (and unfair with the inconsistencies) but it's very annoying when watching on tele.
Joe Cobb is the worst, he shouts "okay" or "play on" after every pass...why? We know it's okay or play on otherwise you'd blow your bloody whistle! His voice is constantly there on tele games, you've got the commentators and the ref constantly talking. I sit there shaking my head it's so annoying.
They are always shouting "hold" or "wait" to the defensive line...why?don't do it, if they're running offside ing use your whistle and give a penalty!
They are always shouting things like "discipline" and "no penalties" to defenders like they're a coach...why?
They are always justifying why they aren't giving penalties; "no, he's trapped", "no, he's pushing forward"...why? Just ignore the moaning buggers it might stop them all whining for penalties all game (which is driving me mad at the moment)
And the worst one for me is that they selectively tell certain players that they're not square or offside to help them not give a penalty away but then they don't do this with everyone so there are glaring inconsistencies with that.
Shut the up and concentrate on doing your job and not coaching teams and individual players through games.

| Because if they didn't there would be a hell of a lot more penaltys. Why don't you use one of your brain cells instead of posting such rubbish

| There weren't a hell of a lot more penalties when it didn't used to happen (when they had mics too) so how do you explain that?
And explain why they tell certain players not to get involved in a tackle but not others?
Why do we/the players need to be told that a simple pass is "okay" or "play on"?
Plus if the players get used to the refs blowing the whistle they'll stop taking the Micky with pushing the boundaries and they'll be more disciplined off their own back rather than the refs/coaches telling them.

| Problem isn't the refs, it's Sky for having the volume of their mic's turned up. Heard Hicks interviewed last year and say that if it was up to him he'd have the volume turned down so you can't hear them all match but it's Sky's decision.

| The Mics are there on sky sports so that the viewing public get an understanding of the refs decisions. He would tell players not to get involved if there offside or something. Are you about 10 yrs of age?

| Id rather have a ref that talked too much than not at all. There chaos and confusion otherwise.

| Yeah good point. I wouldn't notice it as much if they turned them down.
but I also think the continual conversation between the ref and players leads to all this moaning the players are constantly dishing out. There have never been as many arms in the air and "hey"s with players asking for penalties and running past the ref asking why a penalty's not been given or why one has, obviously with a few expletives thrown in and refs not penalising being sworn at.
There are a few players where the match is a full conversation between the ref and that player.

| They're not too vocal. It's just that Cobb is an awful referee and his voice is annoying.

| I can only assume the saying "okay" for each pass is for the touch judges or video refs. Because it's not necessary for the players.
Some of the talk is unnecessary like when they say "no penalties" etc. That's not needed, nor is the "hold". It should be up to the players to move up after the ball has been played. Not the ref to tell them.
Other things like telling a player not to get involved is just sensible and helps the game.
Most of the ref's talk is needed, but it could be cut down a little.

I agree with you completely. I didn't even watch Leeds' game today when I saw it was Mr Bean reffing.
Can't stand Thaler either with his okay, okay, okay after almost every pass and every kick.

| The reason the ref makes the call to the players is quite simple, to cut down on the amount of penaltys in a game.

| If you are getting annoyed with the referees talking, I do believe modern day technology came up with a solution called the "mute button".

So, anyone with a different opinion to you is a simpleton? You're an idiot.
