| Despite the two losses. One controversial. I'm a lot happier with how we played in this tournament than in internationals of recent years.
A couple of things didn't go our way, otherwise we'd be on top.
What do you lot reckon?

| Agreed.
When it comes down to it. We were a Ryan hall little finger away from being in the final and a coat of paint on the goal posts away from completing a clean sweep of the 3 games.
But some people would prefer to moan about how few minutes Elliot Whitehead played, or the time Sam Tomkins dropped a ball.
The worst thing about this whole series is that England, and the rst of the teams have put on some brilliant performances, watched by tiny audiences, yet 80,000 people have packed twickenham to watch one of the dullest games of rugby you'll ever see. And it will be given 4 pages in the broadsheets tomorrow

I reckon you are a typical brit.
A loser an apologist look at this from RU lost by 3 points
www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/29974562
and not happy .
RL fans in England settling for second best .
Bunch of losers.
And judging by the comments of most posters on here they are happy with that.
Still we h can have another glorious defeat in next years 4 nations.
Then we can say we only lost by a point and but for this decision or that mistake we could have won.
We lost against the worst Australian side i have seen in 20 years and somehow numpties like you think we are getting better.
If we were getting better we would have mullered them.
Just think they if they had their best team playing we would have lost by 20 points.
Do you still think we are getting better.

Hmmm clearly you are a youngster not old enough to remember the Aussie team of the SL wars
Lets get some perspective, Do you think that all of a sudden the Aussies just became the best team in the world? it's something they did over decades, give our boys time, we have turned the tide, to not see that makes you the loser

| Being competitive on their turf is something england haven't managed in a generation.
I mean just look at the way england played. The lines of attack, the smooth well timed passing, always looking dangerous with the ball, the forwards consistently winning the collision. England actually knew what they were doing. It was like watching an australian team, some of the plays they were putting on. They just don't quite have that killer instinct yet. It's a young team, it will come. For the first time in a long time, england are actually moving forward at international level.

| There are so many good things to take from this tournament, the way we played aside, the new players who we hoped would play well really did
We finally have a good halfback pairing,
An actual Kicking game
Not scared of the Kiwis or Aussies,
Could you ask for a better set of props? even the Aussies are jealous!
Clarke, superb defo an international hooker, just such a shame JR couldn't interchange with him
Sargsion went really well, this helps our weakest area (centres)
Joel Tompkins again really pleased considering him just coming back to league, with a full RL season behind him will be even better for next years internationals
Bring on next year, just need Reed in for Watkins and hopefully Sam Burgess will decide union not for him haha
Gutted we didn't beat the Aussies/Kiwis but have full faith we'll do it next year
We are in desperate need of a mid season international

No we don't. We had a good half back pairing last year but one of them retired.
We could have potentially a great half back pairing if Sam Tomkins was partnered with Widdop.

Sam Tompkins is a world class full back, he isn't a half back, do you not watch rugby?

I'll take it from your comments you didn't watch it nor did you watch last year when Sinfield missed the tackle which caused us to lose to the Kiwis

| It's fantastic news that England are still relentlessly losing but getting much closer.
Losing to the worst Australian team ever by such a small margin is indeed progress and with a bit of luck, the Australians might continue with their policy of fielding third-string sides with just the one prop forward.
Losing to New Zealand by such a small margin is also magnificent progress and with a bit more luck next time, we could beat New Zealand down under for the first time ever during the SL era and reduce that 10-0 game losing streak to a much more respectable 10-1.
Here's hoping

Yes i remember them beating England in the WC final.
And as bad as that team was they had proper props playing as well as Andrew Johns who many say was the best player ever on the greatest player thread Brad Fittler and Steve menzies.
First time i saw the Aussies was 1978 and i still reckon that team that beat England last week was the worst Aussie team i can remember.

| So you were asleep during the 2003 Ashes? That was the worst Aussie team in my lifetime by some margin. The only area they could have improved this year is Thurston and at prop - but England 'could' have had Sam Burgess and James Roby.
I don't think anyone's saying that we should be satisfied with losing, but ignoring the clear progression we've made over the past two years is stupid. What McNamara needs to do is look to improve the gaps in the side - notably one halfback and the backrow. That's immeasurably closer in terms of gaps than we've been for years. If Tomkins moves into the halves for the Warriors that will solve one problem.
Oh, and play a warm-up game so he's more able to rotate the squad.

Civoneciva, Willie Mason Webcke at prop
Lockyer at full back
Kimmorley and Gower in the halves
Matt Sing and Anthony Minichello in the backs
And that was the worst you have seen.
And they still whitewashed GB

Indeed.
This half-d, we're all going on a summer holiday, 2014 Australian lite version is by far the weakest squad they've ever assembled.
It was England's biggest opportunity in decades last week and they failed.
Glorious/heroic/unlucky losers might cut it in Moonie World but not in anyone else's.
